Expenses when traveling with a provider

So I'm doing my first travel engagement with a provider. Here's my question: is it appropriate to give him cash to pay for expenses like dinner or drinks for the 2 of us? Or should I simply pay for everything myself?

He is your guest, so you should pick up the bill for all expenses, dinner, drinks, Uber, event tickets etc.

I don’t understand your question. Are you asking if you can give him the money to pay for expenses so it makes it look like he’s the one paying? 
 

either way, ultimately you should be the one paying for the expenses

I pay for everything.  It might be nice to give them extra folding money for incidentals.  They want to run into a store and grab a snack or some such.  I have actually had providers ask me for money so they could buy dinner or a gift for me.  A bit odd on it's face, but whatever.

I picked up everything for one of my favorite providers who I travelled out of the country with, but he surprised me with a gift from his own money.  If you pick everything up, I wouldn't worry about extra spending money -- they're making enough.
