+ BenjaminNicholas Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 Saw it Friday night. It's running until 6/7. Aside from a beautiful direction and performance by a very talented cast, the production design by David Hockney is bonkers. Bright, psychedelic, layered colors. Whimsical costuming. Wacky set pieces. If you're not a usual fan of opera, this might be the production for you. Turandot WWW.METOPERA.ORG

+ ApexNomad Posted March 1 Posted March 1 I wish I would have seen that production. Zeffirell’s production remains one of the most visually spectacular and enduring productions I’ve ever seen. sydneyboy and Becket 1 1

Given the parlous financial state of the world’s opera houses a lavish production like that is unlikely to be repeated any time soon. + ApexNomad 1

You’re absolutely right! I remember the first time I saw the production—I’m going back at least 30 years—there were audible gasps in the audience at the end! It was breathtaking.
