Cannes top prize winner is easily one of the best films the year. Sandra Huller deserves an Oscar nomination for her lead performance.

She was certainly very good.

I wasn’t aware of the French judicial system trial structure, seemingly a free-for-all level of arguing back and forth relatively speaking, with a mix of official judges and layperson jurors, unweighted. Two-thirds majority required for conviction and the layperson component, for example, could technically trump the judges’ unanimous votes on conviction vs acquittal if such was the pattern. I assume this consistently avoids a hung jury sitch. I am not aware if each juror’s vote is public record.

I’m also eagerly looking forward to seeing Sandra Hüller in The Zone of Interest, which also received accolades at Cannes.

She gave a wonderful performance as did the entire cast. The film however,  was in desperate need of a better director or editor. They should have cut 30 minutes and not let the camera stay so still for the courtroom scenes.

I did not enjoy this film. I did not understand the hype or praise. I never believed for a minute that she was guilty of murder. I also didn't believe a case should have been brought against her. I thought is was all phony and ridiculous.
