+ tassojunior
not very tech but noticed last night while going through old posts on the Prague site that most old photos and many fairly recent ones disappeared. Is there a time limit on photos and is there a difference in how long they stay if they are copy-and-paste vs downloaded by "choose files"? I assume it also matters where they were originally hosted. Thanks !
RadioRob
Can you give me an example thread? There are a bunch of if/else answers so I don’t want to give a wrong explanation. + tassojunior

Yesterday I noticed most of the old photos are gone from most of it's 5 years. many of us miss those old pics of the Prague guys but I realize it's inevitable. RadioRob
It's because the image source is not available. For example: https://www.boytoy.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2018_06/Screenshot_20180614-151010_Chrome.jpg.e94c9378788b62dfba15a8530984eb15.jpg That image file is not accessible. I tried to load it in my browser, but it just timed out attempting to load it. If I manually changed the URL to: https://www.gayguides.com/forums/uploads/monthly_2018_06/Screenshot_20180614-151010_Chrome.jpg.e94c9378788b62dfba15a8530984eb15.jpg It looks like the webmaster there never setup 301 redirects to route any request from their old URL to the new one. There is not a set time for any image to be expired/deleted. However things like domain changes can cause some issues like this from time to time. 56harrisond

RadioRob
Linking to an image (meaning you paste the URL) means you're counting on the "source" to host the image. If they remove that image or block it, that image will no longer show on our site. By uploading it to our site (meaning you saved it to your computer and then "choose files"), a copy of it is stored on our site itself meaning you don't have to worry it disappearing in the future. BuffaloKyle
Like @RadioRob just said whenever I find a pic to upload to the forum I don't link it I save it to my desktop and upload it from there. That way it'll never disappear! + tassojunior, + jeezopete and Simon Suraci 2

Maybe you can help - I keep seeing boytoy.com as the best reference for working guys but it always takes me to gayguides.com i can’t seem to find the content that everyone is talking about. Am I doing something wrong?
RadioRob
I don't know the details, but essentially Boytoy was either bought or in some other way merged into GayGuides. Think of GayGuides as the new home for the content that used to be on Boytoy. So all of the content under the old domain was moved somewhere under the new one. Unfortunately the technical team at that site did not leave good redirects to take users from the old address to the new one. That means older posts/threads that referenced that original boytoy.com domain don't necessarily end up making its way automatically to the new location and can appear as broken. So it's not you doing something wrong. It's technically not even them doing something wrong. It's just that they did not leave good "digital breadcrumbs" to point you to where the content has moved over the years. Think about if you moved from one house to another... if you did not leave a change of address or your change of address expired, you would have a hard time finding someone who moved without manually trying to figure out where the new place is. mike carey
