Hola amigos. I am visiting the Colombian capital right now, having a great time. For those interested, my travel blog is available in this thread at Gayguides.com

This year, I am not in the mood for cutting and pasting. If you do not want to participate in the other forum, you can read my reports there and post your follow up questions and comments in this thread.

By the way, if there is any lingering animosity towards the forum formerly called Boytoy, I would find it ridiculous after everything that happened. My intention is to honor the specialization of each virtual community. Here, the major topic is escorts and gayness in the United States. In Gayguides, the major topic is paid sex, traveling, and gayness around the world, out of the US.

What an absolute useless post. I can't decide if I dislike the puerile complaining more or the advertising to drive traffic to [sic: your] [a] rather boring and overly verbose blog.

Isn’t that what you just did, for free? LOL.

With 1,300-1,400 views thus far on one topic, not nearly completed, he hardly needs the help. And that’s not counting the hordes of unregistered lurkers … um, readers … using public domain option.

And now I did it too.

me, too, I enjoyed reading your blog, and thanks to Axel's post, I now have the desire to visit Colombia. I am particularly interested in meeting Venezuelans, they are so passionate and like Brazilians comes in all the flavors and form :p  from the mixed ones to fair-skinned ones. to the model/pretty clean-cut.  They want to give you pleasure. most of them; or at least in my case, all. excellent experiences. All the Venezuelans I have met end up as regular,, My favorite provider, maybe ever, was a Venezuelan boy living in Barcelona,; he was too good to be true.

I agree that Barcelona is a common destination for Venezuelans to either stop by or stay and work there for a while. Now I need to know what city, for my first time: Medellin (of course) Cartagena de Indias

I’m bumping this thread now, even though I’m not going to Bogotá until the end of November.  Airfare actually comes out a lot cheaper if I fly to Bogotá, then back to Las Vegas vs. flying direct MAD->LAS.  @José Soplanucas, what part of the city did you stay in?  I’m undecided between Zona T/Rosa and La Candelaria.  Zona T seems to be modern hustle & bustle while La Candelaria is the historic district.  I’m leaning toward La Candelaria but wanted to hear your take.

I currently like to stay near Parque de la 93. It's an upscale neighborhood and feels very safe day or night. There are lots of pubs and restaurants nearby.

On my first trip to Bogota, I strived to stay near the gay bars, but I quickly learned that was not the best strategy. In that part of town, things vary widely from block to block, and some areas are pretty sketchy. Ubers are amazingly cheap in Bogota, just $2-3 to go clear across town, so it isn't so important to stay close to the action.

I stayed at Chapinero, near The Theatron. I would recommend it only if your main goal is deep diving into the local gay night life. I would not go to La Candelaria either. Picturesque, but too touristic during the day and I am unsure about what is going on there at night, it may be unsafe. Zona T and anything north of Chapinero is lovely.

Thank you both @corndog and @José Soplanucas.  Once I book my flight, I'll reserve an Airbnb in Zona T/Rosa (they appear to be almost the same location, not sure what the difference is). Because I plan on staying 6 days, I’d rather go with an Airbnb vs. a standard hotel room.  Not sure I’ll end up using the kitchen and washer/dryer, but it’ll be nice to have the option.

Any tips on what site/platform to use for escorts?  I fear that any guy I find through RentMen me vaya a costar un ojo de la cara.  Gracias por adelantado.

I have consistently stayed in Chapinero because it is accessible to all sights but also happens to be walkable to my preferred playbook of trade, St Moritz baths/brothel and vast eating options on the route as well as upscale groceries and walkable love hotels for hook-ups. The facilities for play at St Moritz are dreadful.

I discovered that the north west facing side of the Holiday Inn at Carrera 7 & Calle 69 is quiet because otherwise the traffic can be quite noisy for sleeping facing Carrera 7 and other accommodations may be noisy for the same reason. It also has the essential mini fridge and microwave.

Airbnbs east of 7 (or west for more selection) in the Calle 60’s may also be a good option. I booked a fantastic penthouse a few years ago with a stunning east view of the hills but it’s now off the platform. I liked Holiday Inn for the familiarity of the area but would in future return to Airbnb options, though actually I’m over Bogotá due to having max’d out the platonic side of my love affair with the city.

For trade, Brazil wins, no contest when levelling nonsexual aspects of destination appeal.

Your intuition about Rentmen is 100% correct. The guys who advertise there often expect to get US prices because rentmen is primarily used by visitors from the US. You'll find that guys on mileroticos.com typically charge 200,000 pesos (about $50). Another site, skokka.com.co are even less, often 100,000 pesos, although I think it's more along the lines of the old craigslist. You also may find you're amazingly popular on Grindr where older white guys seem to be considered exotic and desirable.

Unlike Mexico, it's pretty hard to find guys who speak English. If you don't speak Spanish, Google Translate may be your new best friend. When contacting guys (they all use WhatsApp, btw), it's probably best to start in Spanish, at least until you get a rate. If you start in English, I think you'll get the gringo rates that they use on rentmen.

The most popular and reliable platform is Mileroticos.com.

I would give a try to this barranquillero.

CO.MILEROTICOS.COM

Wow, that ass belongs in the Louvre!  I’ll start going through Mileroticos ~1 week before arrival.  I was enjoying perusing through the listings this evening, until I remembered that some of these guys probably won’t be around in 6 months.  I noticed that this barranquillero requires a deposit, as do a lot of the guys.  Should I stick to the hard & fast US rule of no money up-front, or do I need to be more flexible in the Colombian market?

You should go to Gayguides and ask over there, there are posters with much more experience than I. I specially recommend to listen to Macdaddi. In my little experience in Colombia, I was never asked for a deposit even when Mileroticos would say that the escort would ask me.

Thanks to those who posted with helpful information.  I have yet to see any of the city but did manage to get my first hire in last night.  Hey, I got my priorities, OK?  I’m staying in a nice Airbnb on Calle 85, a block from Centro Andino.  The building’s policy is that the Airbnb guest must give the Airbnb owner their visitor’s name and DNI number ahead of time.  When your escort shows up, building security gets authorization from the owner, checks your visitor’s ID, and logs in the number.  In this particular building (which I believe is all Airbnbs), you have to go down to the lobby to get him and escort him back downstairs afterward because the elevators only work with facial recognition.  All minor inconveniences that I am more than happy to deal with in exchange for much greater safety.

Someone at GayGuides reported that Colombian escorts have a 2-tier pricing system, one price for Colombians (and maybe those from other Spanish-speaking countries) and one for gringos.  The GG guy said that once his escort found out he was American, the price jumped from 200K COP to 300K.  When the gringo complained, the escort told him sorry, but that’s how it works here.  Mind you, 300K is still just $80, so it’s not like Colombianos are shamelessly ripping off us Americans.  Anyway, all communication with my hire was in Spanish through WhatsApp.  He never asked where I was from, nor did I volunteer.  When he first saw me, he looked a bit annoyed.  I read it as “crap! I could have charged 50% more” annoyance, but maybe that’s just my paranoia.  He quickly put his annoyance aside and did his best to please me.  Despite his efforts, the session wasn’t great, simply a case of no chemistry.  I like a chatty BFE whereas he’s the tight-lipped wham-bam-thanks man type.

He charged me 300K for 2 hours.  Although his Mileroticos ad warned that he requires advance deposits, he never mentioned it when we made arrangements.  Thanks to @José Soplanucas’s advice, I shall maintain my no-deposits policy here in Bogotá, even though quite a few ads indicate deposit required.  After I paid, tipping him an extra 100K, we parted ways, amicably but with tacit mutual agreement that there would be no repeat.

I plan on hiring at least one more guy, maybe a couple of others.  I am looking exclusively on Mileroticos because the prices listed on RentMen are multiple times higher.  Mileroticos is a bit more difficult to browse through because you have to open every listing to get an idea of what the escort looks like, but on the plus side it offers lots of helpful information:  whether photos, age, and identity are verified, deposit required, high/low activity, if the escort has advertised more than 1 year without negative reports from clients, etc.  Also, the guys advertising on RentMen weren’t any handsomer or fitter, despite their much higher prices.  My guess is the RentMen advertisers speak better English and are therefore better equipped to suck more money out of gringos.

Mileroticos is highly disorganized and repeats ads by latest dates or same guy different ad with same number. A tip: scroll through and redden the heart outline with a click for each one whose single profile photo catches your eye. Then just go through the red-hearted list you created by clicking the red-outlined white heart at the very top of the platform page that will pull up your highlighted choices as a shortlist. Consolidates duplicates and avoids endless back and forth between a single profile view and the thumbnail list. I also Google the phone number of a prospect for red flags such as same number different profile.

Sometimes you have to accept that a destination just isn’t going to work out for you.  While I don’t regret going, I can’t say I much enjoyed Bogotá.

First, an odd experience:  a couple with a baby approached me in the street, asking if I could help them out because they really needed food for the baby.  When I told them I had no Colombian pesos, they asked if I could buy them food for the baby at the pharmacy, where I could pay with a card.  I agreed, we set off to the Farmatodo, where the husband grabbed 8 huge boxes of baby food & formula.  When it came time to pay, 2,195,000 COP sounded like a heckuva lot of money, but I just went with it.  Imagine my dismay when I converted it later, $578!  But I was OK with it because it was all food for their baby, who frankly didn’t look all that well-fed.  I was touched that they didn’t buy a single item for themselves; I saw with my own 2 eyes that it was all for the baby.  They were Venezuelan migrants who tried to go to the US but got kicked out of Mexico for lacking a visa and were now just headed back to Venezuela.

Unfortunately, the story has a sad ending.  I saw them again my last full day in Bogotá.  They told me they were stopped by a cop when he saw they were carrying around so much baby food/formula.  When the couple couldn’t show a receipt (although everything was in the pharmacy’s bags, which you have to pay extra for and are kept behind the counter), the cop confiscated everything!  They asked to go back to the pharmacy, where the clerk or management could verify that everything was legit paid for, but nope.  I was happy to help the couple out, but I sure as hell didn’t want my $578 purchase going to a corrupt cop.

Anyway, back on topic … I hired another guy.  Unfortunately, he didn’t work out either.  From the moment we met, it was all D-R-A-M-A with this guy.  I had to listen to all his dramas of the day, and as if that weren’t enough, he took a call from a friend (yes, he left his cell on and was responding to texts during the session) who got kicked out of her place.  Cut the session short (although only 15 minutes out of the 2 hours), grabbed his money, and off he went.  By the way, he charged double the fee of the first guy, 600K (still just $160, so not complaining!).

Oh well, the 2 stars I met in Barcelona more than balance out the 2 duds I got in Bogotá.  Not a bad track record given that I didn’t have a site like CoM to get client reviews.  When I think of the cost of 2 hours in the US, it’s easy to write off the less-than-stellar hires.  I was sick in bed the whole first day in Bogotá, lacked energy and felt tired all week, didn’t get used to the altitude until my last day there, the sad story of the Venezuelan family, no great hires … all add up to a meh visit.  On top of all that, I actually struggled to understand Colombians, which surprised me because at least from TV, the Colombian accent/pronunciation is one of the easier ones outside of Spain for me to understand.  I easily understood my 2 working guys (no background noise helped) but struggled a bit while out & about in restaurants, stores, etc.

On the plus side, the Museum of Gold more than lived up to its billing, a spectacular collection of centuries- and some millennia-old works of gold.  And the coffee is even better than I expected.  I went every day to a café around the corner from the Airbnb, where I sampled a few of their single-origin coffees, ranging from very good to the best coffee I’ve ever had.  So there you have it, my Bogotá trip report.  Hopefully other forum members have better luck than I did.

For different reasons, I did not love Bogotá either. When I am visiting Medellín, of course I have to pay sometimes a "gringo price", but I was never scammed as I was in Bogotá. I found much more dishonesty in the national capital than in Antioquia.

By the way, I hired already twice a guy from Mileroticos, performer for BLM, his fee is 150K with condom, 200K without. So even the escort prices seem to be better in Medellín.
