Barbara Kruger installation at MOMA

Sometimes size matters. The huge installation of Barbara Kruger’s type driven piece is impressive both to look down on and also to wander through. And read it.

I’m a huge fan of “text art”, but I’ve never liked her stuff.

Heavy handed….is an understatement. Well, that plus it’s just not interesting.

At least they finally found a way to fill that giant gapping hole in the middle of MOMA.

The Holzer exhibit at the Guggenheim was great, and the running sign board were the best ever use of the atrium space. ( Second to Matthew Barney's Cremaster Series ).

Plastering the MOMA atrium with layers of random text is a reference to Holzer's exhibit with an updated nod to the obnoxious pointlessness of modern social media culture.

As my photography professor once said in college….

”If you have to explain your art….it’s bad”

I also loved Holzer’s use of the Guggenheim spiral.
It was was one of the best Guggenheim shows ever.

Comparing Kruger and Holzer because they both use text is like comparing Jean-Michel Basquiat and Ellsworth Kelly because they both used paint.
