What's a good place for afternoon/high tea in Westminster or City of London where (very) casual dress is acceptable?  Price isn't important; not having to change clothes is!  Thanks, gents.

I’m not sure you understand the difference between "Afternoon Tea"
(a.k.a "Low Tea") and "High Tea".

I have a feeling that what you’re after is afternoon tea, because that’s
what most non-Brits would think of as a "proper British Tea". Traditionally,
it’s a formal woman’s affair. Not that it can’t be causal (and male), I’m just
not sure there’s much of a market for such a beast.

People often assume high tea is the fancy one….it’s not. And it’s not what
most people think of when they are talking about having “Tea" in Britain.

High tea is more like an early Workman’s dinner. Casual to be sure,
but I don’t think it’s what you seek. Sorry, I don’t have any suggestions,
but I thought clear terminology might help you find what you’re after.

I just thought of a very good causal afternoon tea.

The Great Court Restaurant at the British Museum.

It’s heavily trafficked by tourists so you won’t feel out of place in causal clothes.
The setting is very nice and the food is reliably good. Not to mention, you’re
in the British Museum….which is amazing!

Nice find!  I have been many times to the British Museum but have never tried the restaurant.  30 pounds for tea, with all those treats, is a great deal.  Maybe not something for every day, but I would be tempted to visit multiple times during my next trip if the food tastes as good as it looks.

Fair enough, I wasn't being precise.  I have been to the British Museum, but it's been a few years so that might be a good option.
