Hey I hope this is not a repeat question, I don't check in here as often as I used too. I hire an escort, almost always for an overnight, (my favorite date) once about ever two months. I am also a big political junkie or fanatic so I am following this Presidential election with lust and zeal, and the economy is going to be a big issue once the Democratic canidate is picked. As far as my life is concerned, as a single, gay, professional male, I really have no money or economic problems in my everyday life, but for the masses of America, the economy is a big issue. I guess my question is this: has the current or impending economic picture affecting your business in any way, good or bad? I apologize if this is a scattered message/question, I am trying to write this an listen to Neal Boortz at the same time, and I'm not doing a very good job at either one. Single Professional Gay Males

 

I recently got a very polite note from a client on what would have been a repeat overnight, to let me know that financial considerations were going to make it necessary for him to cancel a previously scheduled overnight session for mid-February. This is the second cancellation for an overnight that I have received in the last two months, both of them from single, professional gay males.

 

The economy has impacted everyone with the only job growth apparently occurring in customer service positions in places like India and manufacturing positions in places like China. Savings and investments in mutual funds and the stock market have been and remain impacted and a number of individuals suffered severe losses for which they have not recovered.

 

As I said to both of these clients, escorts are luxury items, not a necessity. It would be needlessly deceptive for me or any other escort to say that the economy has not had an impact. Personally, having always been thrifty and resourceful, I have been weathering these circumstances well but I personally know of others who have not.

Hi Anton, I found your chart hard to interpret. Since it is a relative chart only, no figures indicating revenue, it would appear your business is doing well and on a positive uptrend. But you say this is not so. I'm confused. Also some bars are blue and some green, what does this mean?

 

I do follow economic trends closely as I am an investor and I know Europe (especially on the continent) is having a struggle (Britain seems to be doing better) altho I hear stories of investment bankers looking for jobs. On this side of the Atlantic, I think there is more disposable income but not like the nineties (I wonder if those days will ever come back!).

 

I would guess that the current economic conditions overall are having a somewhat negative impact on the escorting business although there is still a lot of action for the more popular studs and twinks in the biz, of that I have no doubt.}(

No disrepect meant, but in the words of a twink friend of mine, they often feel they are like the puppies some children get for christmas, who often get ignored once they grow past the adorable stage, which can be as a shorter time frame than one things. Some of them have viewed escorting as a means to an end (one is paying, like Anton, for school this way), but others, the ones who have simply been spending the money, have certainly noticed that they do not have as much to spend and have even had to struggle to pay expenses.

 

As for popular studs, I can think of two porn models with many reviews on this site, one who has lowered his rate from $300 to $250 and one who is simply not making as much money as he did last year.

 

At the same time I got these two cancellations, I got a request to go one week to Taiwan, I did not pursue it, primarily because I do not feel that travel for one solid week with a client I have never met would have been a good idea and the client seemed unwilling or unable to make other accomodations.

 

I stand by my opinion that even those who can be considered doing well are not making what they were nor what they could be making, with respect to the economic situation worldwide.

Good call. Ever been to Taiwan? Supposedly parts of the interior and some of the beaches are just amazing. But, most of the island is a giant and highly polluted factory. Taiwan is not a lot of fun, and, seemingly, has some homophobic tendencies.

This sure seems to be the case. Rates here in AZ have dropped, and, way more people are doing it than once were. A lot of the old regulars got out, but a few are returning. Although I don't hire often, I do keep an eye on who is around.

I found your comments interesting. As I am not into twinks, I had not really considered their plight when they outgrow their cuteness, which I suppose can happen in their early to mid 20's. The guys who interest me have a lot longer "shelf life", since there are a lot of years between 25 and 49!}(

 

As for the rates escorts can command, I will shell out $250 for a really hot guy such as Jason Markus in NYC or Brok Austin in Florida (and both these guys are around 40, give or take). Brok actually charges only $150 but is worth more IMO. But Florida is a bit cheaper market than NYC. But I really get turned off with escorts who charge $300 or more an hour. I just won't go there, although I will pay that or more for a two-some, as I did last winter for Jason and a hot pal of his.

 

There are really a lot of guys that I find acceptable in the under $200 range, especially in Montreal, which has to be the best market in North America for male escorts and dancers.

 

I guess if prices are coming down in some places, I'm glad to hear that as a consumer:P

Very good friends from work were transferred to run our Taipai office several years ago. They said even if you just ran down to the corner, you'd have to wash your face (and other exposed areas) as soon as you got home, and the washcloth would be black. The pollution was so bad it was exhausting just trying to breathe. They did have some great trips in the country. In particular was a visit to a place called something like "The Marble Gorge", which is pretty much like it sounds. They said it was gorgeous.

 

However, the environment was more like the 40's. She found she was looked upon as "the wife" who was not allowed opinions or even a voice. When she tried to join in dinner conversation, a client turned and asked "why aren't you in the kitchen"?

 

I don't think it's a place I'd ever want to visit. Don't go Franco!
