Escorting during the holidays

I've recently been reminded that it can be difficult to set-up an appointment with an escort during the holiday season (mid-Nov onward to New Years), even if you avoid the holidays themselves and adjacent days. In the past, my best luck has been with full-time or agency escorts and it's much been better in Los Angeles than in any other destination. Indeed, I have had surprising luck getting guys I'd expect to either be booked or on vacation (e.g., porn stars) on the most unlikely days around Xmas and Thanksgiving.

 

So what's the strategy here and what should clients expect? Business travel for most people (not me) tends to wind down from the week before Thanksgiving until shortly after New Years--I'd guess that full-time escorts want to maintain some cash flow even in lower traffic times like these & that's why they're more available. But what about the part-timers---is a slow season too much hassle to even respond to inquiries, for the pay off involved? Does the socializing, shopping, and travel during the holidays get in the way of part-time escorting? And what about paying those holiday bills?

It's not surprising that you've had an easy time finding people in Los Angeles. Sheer volume is part of the equation too, as LA has quite a few escorts, with New York ahead.

 

Living in LA, you realize everyone is a transient. Most people are not from here and don't go home for Christmas. In fact, I was just reading an article examining travel trends over the last decade and it's actually decreased, suggesting the people just don't go home to visit during the holidays as much as they used to. Personally, I'm happy to stay in LA with my friends, the family that I *choose* ;-)

 

To find someone, I would just suggest persistence. Agencies have never really succeeded in LA, but they're probably your best bet if you have a different destination. I'm sure there are plenty of escorts available for you. Maybe the guy you want isn't around, but take it as an opportunity to expand your sexual horizons. If you're usually into twinks try a muscle-guy or just try something different. Could be fun :-)

 

In regard to your question paying the bills if we're not seeing anyone, it's just a matter of proper money and time management...something that anyone with any job has to do.

Personally, I'm spending most of December traveling, and a bit of early January, but I'm finding time to see people here and there. The holidays are just busy that way.

While Turkey Day & Christmas do fall closely together, making it rather tough for some to schedule in-between meetings, with a little prodding (ahem) and schedule flexibility, it seems more than possible to procure some good times before Santa blows down the chimmney.

Personally, i tend to schedule out until just before the holidays and then go back into things the day after or so. Guys tend to book overseas travel time around the holidays to get out of the wintery USA, so making sure that you've got the open time is sometimes tough. I really prefer to spend Christmas Day & New Year's Eve with family, as i've pissed-off many in the past by being out-of-town on birthdays, family gatherings, etc.

 

My New Year's Resolution for 2004 will most certainly be to stay in better touch with the people i love. Hopefully Santa will throw a Siemens World Phone in my stocking come Christmas Eve

 

On the flipside, i've heard from friends who escort that the holiday season can also be tough to drum-up business. Guys simply aren't spending money on themselves, as gift-giving for others seems to be tops on their agenda. This leads me to believe that someone is going to need to organize a 'Jerry Lewis-esque' telethon for ESCORTS WHO CAN'T PAY THEIR RENT IN DECEMBER. I can just see the performance acts now... Well, I arranged something for the second weekend of December, and I'm counting that as my holiday time - lol. I think arranging things with the escort well ahead of time (late October I mentioned it, and actually did the arranging in mid-November) was a major reason it worked out for me. Once again, the best answer is that it depends. Many of the adult film models I know are not close to their biological parents or sibilings; also, as Mr. Thompson indicates, in Los Angeles people are from somewhere else and, given our excellent weather, it is difficult to get motivated to go somewhere else. As for individual escorts, that is going to vary from person to person and I would guess that the men who escort as a way to make extra money, to pay for school, etc., are more likely to want or desire to either go home or make other plans.

 

I took the entire four day Thanksgiving weekend off this year but last year, I helped a client in Orange County put together a party that involved several other escorts and a fair number of his guest, the day after Thanksgiving.

 

I also agree with Ethan, holidays can be very profitable for escorts as men who have spent the day earlier with family or who do not have family or friends to spend it with, can more strongly feel the urge for companionship and intimacy.

I think at this point in time Christmas has become a secular holiday and is just part of the season. Christmas is right in the middle of Thanksgiving and New Year's, so even though one may not be Christian there's still reason to celebrate. Also, let's not forget Kwanza and Chanukah :-)

Well depending when Chanukah falls in December, I see no reason for a jewish escort not to ply his trade. In my workplace in NY, most jews make an exaggerated showing of working through Christmas and refusing to send out so much as a Christmas card or Seasons Greetings card. I don't see why escorts would be any different.
