So you're an escort and you've got strangers calling your phone routinely. How do you handle that?

I'm assuming a separate # for business than personal (thought I knew of a guy with whom that was not the case..which led to problems where he couldnt distinguish btw a work call and a personal call).

When a prospective client calls, should they/do they start the conversation with "Hello X, my name is Y, I saw your ad Z". And if they don't, how do you get that info? I would guess that some might be a little flustered or just worked up and be kind of scattered on the phone. A good phone manner is likley a very important tool in escorting.

I Give Good Phone

I usually introduce myself. Generally, the other person offers their name.

Once we have spoken and I have provided a URL and the possibility of an actual meeting is present, I then very politely request their name. Usually, the best way to handle this is to ask, "I am sorry, I cannot recall your name again . . . ?"

I have never had a problem getting a "name" of a client before I met them. I do know for a fact that some clients gave me stage names. Obviously, if I went to their hotel room or had to telephone them in their hotel room, I would need an actual name.

Some escort have caller ID and do not answer the phone unless a message with a call back number is left. I know of at least one well-reviewed, highly reputed escort who states in his outgoing message that he does not take calls from blocked numbers and instructs the caller how to unblock their calls and asks that they call back. I do not have caller ID on my home phone and my numeric pager simply provides for the ability to punch in a number, not any other message.

RE: I Give Good Phone

Hi Hijinx, Actually, once you've said "Hi X!", many escorts, including myself will know that you are making a business call. We are sometimes criticized for using false names, but this is one reason we do it. Then it's easy enough to say, "I can't talk right now. My mom's over. Can you call back later?" without having to go into any extended questions first which would signal anyone else in the room that something they don't know about is happening. This is also one reason why some excorts use multiple names. That way as soon as you say the name, they also know where you saw their ad as any other ad would have another name. Or they would know which angle on their services you want as their bodywork ads and the escort ads are under different names. Which is a reason why just "Hello, I saw your ad," is perhaps not as helpful as it could be. (As well as the fact that it might not be the escort who answers their phone, much as they might try to make sure that it's either them or a friendly assistant who do, and if you ask by a name you can be told you have a wrong number but if you ask by mentioning an ad, you leave yourself open to being asked what ad, which ad, the ad about what?) And, of course, all of this explains why it is even more vexing for an escort when he says, Hello, and the caller says, Hello, Who is this? - which happens more often than you might think.
