I recently met an escort who said he wanted to be paid for travel time. He said this was very common all over, New York, San Francisco, Texas. His travel time is 1 hour one way and he wanted an extra 40 dollars on top of his 1 hour charge of $250. I never encountered this before in the Minneapolis area. What is the normal practise?

I think it's quite reasonable to charge for travel. I charge at least another $100 to travel an hour on top of my outcall rate of $140. My outcall rate covers anything under 1/2 hour travel time.

His $250/hr rate sounds a bit high to start with though, especially for Minneapolis.

If he lives in Loring Park and you live in Chanhassen, then he should probably get some compensation for the long drive down the 169.

Yeah, it's common, he's not pulling your leg. In fact 1.5 years ago I stopped doing hourly-outcalls all together because I was tired of all the running around. But then again I am extremely lazy. I'll go almost anywhere for an overnight of course.

Yes, it can be common

However, some guys build it in and do not have published rates such as Rod and I do.

I do not like to drive. I therefore offer a discount for guys to come to me, but only during certain hours and very few people take me up on it. Almost always, they prefer the comfort of their own home and travelers in motel rooms do not ever want to come here. Out of town married and bisexual men are about one-third of my client base. If they do come here and become a repeat client, the second meeting is often at their home. Only one man thus far has come to my home twice. One other client came here once after I went to his home at my IN-call rate because he lived down the block and I had a house guest at the time.

I do know escorts who do not make this distinction. You get the same rate whether you come to them or they come to you. They also do not charge for travel. These are guys who have it built in, so if you live nearby you are paying them a premium to begin with. The charge is between $50 to $75 an hour for travel time. This is what a professional, such as a lawyer would also charge, at their normal hourly rate, not a discounted rate.

I am also lazy in that I do not like to drive or travel to other cities for short periods. I routinely turn down opportunities in Orange and Long Beach Counties for this reason. I have even turned down opportunities to fly to cities where I would only fly in and out for one client. I go to Palm Springs for a week at a time even though it creates more expense and opportunity loss for me because of this reason. I am paying for my own travel to San Francisco this summer as well as my travel to Chicago this fall, and to Portland, Seattle and British Columbia for two weeks over Labor Day.

Here in DC many of the agencies have one hourly rate for inside the Beltway and another one (usually about $20 higher) for outside the Beltway. I would guess that some of the DC independents would have a similar policy. Some of the escorts can wind up having a commute of up to an hour or more one-way depending on time of day so a little additional compensation doesn't seem unreasonable as long as you know the cost upfront.

For as long as I can remember (and I've been hiring escorts for more than twenty years), a majority of escorts in New York advertise separate rates for in-calls and out-calls. The outcall rate is always higher, even if all the travel is within Manhattan. However, his rate does seem unusually high for travel in Minneapolis.

Sorry for the delay in responding. I was called out of town.

Thanks for all who responded to my question. I agree with the assessment that this escort is charging on the high side for this area. I have done some checking with other escorts and most charge $150-$200 per hour or so.

Thanks again:-)
