I'm not seeing the 3 buttons next to the sort by dropdown.  Am I doing something wrong?

I assume this is because you're viewing the images in a category and not the album itself.  I'm guessing you're viewing either:

https://www.companyofmen.org/gallery/category/5-public-images/ or https://www.companyofmen.org/gallery/category/3-pornography-members-only/

These pages are the equivalent of the legacy gallery's topic list.  (Meaning it's this specific page: https://www.companyofmen.org/forum/99-legacy-gallery/

It's just a listing of all the albums themselves.  To help you figure out if you want to view images inside of that album, it shows several thumbnails of the images inside of it.  If you want to see the full list of images inside of that album, click its name.

image.png

In the screenshot above, you would click on My "pics" of the day.  But do you see for example one of the benefits of the gallery here?  This part is the equivalent of the topic list...  you could not see previews of the images inside of that thread like this!

Once you open the album itself (again just by clicking on it's title), you're going to see all the images uploaded in it with the most recent images being on top.

Using the same example from above, clicking the My "pics" of the day would take you to:

The images will all by default be sorted by newest to oldest.  If you don't like that sorting, you can change it.   That's where the "Sort By" button would show up.  See below for an example:

image.thumb.png.a509f1c06516f1c8ac5410b2

Also if you look just to the left of "Sort By" on that page, you'll see the three options to change how the albums are displayed.  :)

I hope that helps!!

Please ignore my last post.  Now the 3 buttons are there.  Not sure what happened before but it's all good now.

No problem at all.  My guess is you were viewing the list of albums instead of the album itself!  (This is like being on the list of topics in a forum instead of viewing the posts inside of a topic!)  Our posts crossed, so it's explained a little more my post just above this one.

RR… When I upload a pic for some reason the thumbnail does not pop up  as in the past.  I can fortunately add the pic to the album without seeing it.   I then go back and use the image tools to add the caption.   It works, but it takes sn extra step.   BTW using Chrome on an iPad.  Thanks!

@whipped guy can you give it a try again?  I've made a change that I think solves the problem.

For example, I was able to add the image from:

https://m.psecn.photoshelter.com/img-get2/I0000Ho3NQ1sObvw/fit=1000x750/sexy-muscular-fireman-outdoors.jpg

as the following gallery image:

I did not have to edit the image afterwards to add the caption.

If it does not work, could you paste a few image URLs for me?

Those specific images look to be happening because of a CORS header issue.  (They have a security policy trying to prevent the copying of images.)

For the tech nerds...  check out: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/CORS

With that being said, it looks like at least a couple of your tests worked!  :)

I'm going to keep playing with this, and see if I can work around the CORS header issue.  I have a couple of ideas that I need to try out in the dev environment.

When viewing an album such as:

The DEFAULT sort order is set to age.  So the images shown first should be the newest ones.  (You're viewing them most recently posted to oldest).  You can change YOUR default sort when viewing an album.

image.png

To confirm this should be working as intended, I opened the first image and confirmed it's upload time was 1 minute ago.  The second was 2 minutes, the third was 4 minutes ago, etc.

If you don't like them displayed with the small thumbnails, you can change your view when looking at the images in the album.  To the left of the SORT BY dropdown is three buttons.

The first will display the small thumbnails like in the screenshot above.  The second option will show large versions of the image where they display one image per row blown up as much as possible.  The final option will display it in a list/table.

Is there an 'already seen' indicator?  That's really what I'm looking for.

That's more of a "forum" concept.  It's not a default gallery feature, but that does not mean I can't look at adding something to mimic that functionality.

I'll add it to my list of of features to work on.  :)

I can speak to my experience with the gallery. If I use the 'unread site content' view, items no longer appear there if I've looked at them individually. If there is an album view in the unread list and I open that, all the items there that otherwise appear individually in the unread list are deleted from that list. It's not the same as viewing an album and being able to see which items you had already seen, but it fulfils a similar purpose.

If you switch to something OTHER than the Thumbnail view, you'll see the status indicator.

image.png

In the case of the image above, the blue dot represents the image being unread.  Once you've opened the image, it will no longer show the dot.

That could help a lot.  I'll give that a try.  thanks!

@RadioRob I have been trying to post as much as much as possible in the new Gallery so as to be able not only to get  better aquatinted with the system, but also to help work out some of the “bugs”.   As you know there is an issue where the ability to easily add a caption does not show up in the pop-up box.  I noticed that when the pic does not show up that if I close the large main box and then resubmit the exact same pic a second time things work as they should and the caption can be added along with any tags.

As you noted in the post quoted above there is a definite reason why the photo is being rejected. Now I guess one needs to figure out what happens the second time around that suddenly makes things work properly.  BTW I have tried using as many diverse sites as possible sources and it does not seem to have any bearing on how things are reacting.

Hoping that this might help a bit.  Thanks!

@whipped guy it makes perfect sense and matches my own testing. (I had already seen the double post work around but did not post about it as that should technically not work.)

Its actually tied to the same problem… this works because the second load now has a local referral header which is what is allowing it to meet the CORS header check on the sites in which it fails.  So fixing that same issue fixes both ultimately.

I COULD simply rewrite the download function to simply do it all twice automatically, but I’m trying not to do this because it would slow down submitting images by almost double. There is a more elegant solution that I’m working on but it’s required rewriting a couple other areas to not break things elsewhere on the site when playing with uploads.

@RadioRob, I just created a new album in the Gallery (Members Only) and I was able to enter the Caption/Title for the picture...  Is it something you did recently to fix the issue?

Oops, spoke too soon...  I added a second picture to the new album (Homoerotic Cartoons), but the issue is still present.  Also, when I go back to see the new album, I only see a black square...  I thought perhaps the album was private (not being shared) or something, but the album details don't show privacy options...  Thanks for all you do.... EGP

It depends on the image source.  It’s nothing in your settings or configurations.

1. If you upload it from your computer, it works fully as intended.

2. If you use the import from URL tool it works if the location you’re pulling it from does not leverage CSP/CORS security headers. If it does use CSP/CORS… you will run into the problem described.

CSP/CORS headers are set on the server hosting the files and is meant to be a way of limiting how the image is allowed to be used.

Today that is gone.

No it's not.  :)

Look for the words "Legacy Gallery" on the home page.  Click it and you're still there in the legacy gallery.  With that being said, I'm intentionally trying to draw more attention to the new gallery.  So fewer eyeballs are going to be there in the legacy area.  So I would prefer to help you get comfortable with the new area!

It's super easy to post images in an existing new gallery.

  • Open whatever album you want to post the image into.  (An album is just like a forum topic.  Think of "The Beef in Back" and "Pool Boys".
  • Click on the "Add Images" button.
    image.png
  • You'll see a popup window that looks something like:
    image.png
  • If you want to paste a link to an image you found somewhere else, click on the "Upload via URL" option.
    • Paste in the URL of the image you want to submit.
    • Let the image be parsed by the system.
    • You'll see a page that lets you set the caption (the image title) and a description.  Neither field is required.  If you don't enter a caption, it will use use the name of the image file.
    • Click the blue "Submit Image via URL" button at the bottom.
    • DONE!! :D
      image.png
  • If you want to upload a file from your computer, click the button to "Add Images".
    • Find the file(s) you want to upload from your computer and press the "Upload" button.
    • The images will upload and you'll see a screen with a thumbnail of each image similar to above where you can click on it and set your caption and description if you want.
    • Click on the blue "Submit All Images" button.
    • DONE!! :D

If you would like to create a new album...  (the equivalent of creating a new topic)...  you want to:

  • Make sure you are in the correct category.
(There are two galleries...  one public and one that allows porn.  Don't post porn in the public one!)
  • Click on the blue "Add Images" button.
  • Choose "Create New Album".
  • Give your new album a name (and optionally a description).
  • If you want to allow ANYONE to add images to your album, click on the Privacy option.  Find "Submissions" and change the option to "Anyone can submit to this album".
  • Click the blue "Create Album" button.

From there, just follow the steps in my prior post to post an image into that album! :D

Thank you for your detailed instructions.  I shall try to follow them in attempting to post new photos.  I take it that if one is posting a photo with previously prohibited features (erections, anus, etc.) one does that in the private gallery and need not be concerned with the prohibitions.

However, your initial response, as quoted above, has me baffled, as I do not see this on the home page.

Correct.  It goes without saying that a few restrictions such as the no child porn, etc continue to apply.

I had the same minor confusion as Oliver.  That image appears only after you click on Forums from the Home Page...  IMHO I took "Home Page" to be the below image after you click on "M4M Message Forums"...  No biggie though...1244537636_ScreenShot2022-03-07at10_43_23AM.thumb.png.915ea6f194d32fdb7c458b52bff02d28.png
