Fresh my successful discovery of Come and See in the Criterion Collection, I happened upon in the same venue a film that I had not seen since I pounded the sidewalks of New Haven as an undergrad. The Seventh Seal.

Much parodied, and probably impossible to release today, the Seventh Seal puzzled me even more now than years ago. I see it as a struggle with nothingness.... with anxiety over Catholicism.... over the existence of God. All set in some chillingly colorful black-and-white scenes that confuse and confound.

One of my foreign favorites and closely followed by Truffaut's Pocket Money. 

I will say that it's a lot easier to watch and discuss when you've had a few glasses of red wine.
