I think those who are in the business for the long run have only raised prices moderately, if any. Those who are charging $200/hr are trying to fleece as much as they can in a short time, before returning with a name change, hoping for a second dip.

A lot of times I remind myself how much one get buy with $200 in exchange for a quick rub and tug; e.g., I recently bought a pair of AirPod pros for $170, something I can enjoy for a few years every day.

@BeefyDude Thank you for this post. Massage is a luxury I choose to afford. I have never chosen a masseur based on price. (ahem, pics and profile do it for me). I commute, so in-calls are my only option. I use one spa exclusively b/c I know the owner's standards and know the place will be clean. Like others, I have noticed prices have increased, but I am still willing to pay. Self-employment during a pandemic, or any other major event, is incredibly challenging and I am happy to support the masseurs who make my life better.

I'm honestly curious why this question keeps coming up.

It seems easy enough to just inquire about a particular provider's rates and then make a value decision from there.  For this service, someone who has priced themselves too high will soon find themselves without any business.  Likewise, someone who can't afford the going rate will find themselves watching porn or getting a normal massage.

Yep exactly that. You summed it up. If the price isn’t to your liking it’s not so much the providers problem…it’s yours! Solve it by finding someone cheaper or finding the money…Providers who price themselves out of the market soon disappear.

On the choice between AirPods and a Massage….I thought people were into buying experiences now over possessions? 😂

I know this topic has come up here and there.  I would like to get a thread started again.

I have noticed along with talking with other members here who have been around for a bit:

Massage prices USED to be in the $120-$140/150 range (with 140/150 being more for the extra stuff).

Now it seems the new norm is $160-180 as the base with many in the 180-200 range.  Quite frankly some of these ads who go that high - i'm like how the #$% do you get away with that and justify it.

When did this happen and why? Seems like it has been over the past 1-2 years.

I know there are ma y legit masseurs on here and would love to get your take on this.

It's one thing to pay more for amenities (heated table, candles etc etc etc). But the ones visiting from out of town who advertise this but obviously dont bring the table etc, where are you justifying this cost.

I could be one of the few on here who is not looking for "sex" like activities.  So to pay that much for a mediocre massage is just frustrating to me.  I know i'm not alone.  I am a beefy/worked out guy so I do like to get worked on as often as I can.  I enjoy the touch of a man, hence why I come here.   I know this post isn't going to fix it.  Just looking for thoughts and to spread awareness.

For me, who was recently unemployed for 9 months I couldn't do a massage.  I'm working now (luckily) but funds are not recharged yet.

I'm just curious where this significant shift in pricing is coming from.  Please DONT say covid - that excuse is wearing too thin on me and many.

Thanks for listening...

Man! You can always ask the provider for a better price after explaining to him your concern about the price.

if you were lucky, he might accept the your suggested price. But u might be unlucky, and he blocks your number.
Regarding the prices, keep in mind this is NEW YORk, which is not “an affordable place for living” and everything is expensive.
If you are comparing the RM’s prices to the ones of the many men spas in the city, I believe this is an unfair comparison.

However, it all gets back to you and to what do you want.

Oh! Just get a lock at Equinox spa prices :)

mmm… not necessary the case😉.

This is NYC! And the market is very diversified, and there client for every range of price.
Not saying these clients are better than other ones…. and vice verse! Just different people With different preferences.

On the other hand, no one disappears because he increased his charges. This is not the wizzed of Oz.
I dnt believe panda if has any relation with that increase. It’s even played a role in slowing that increase, unless the prices will hit higher.
