Was suppose to be in Rio for my first time even last March and experience the sights and sound and boys!! Needless to say I canceled. With mess of handling of the pandemic there by their version of DT, wonder if the sauna/boys/beaches will be the same afterwards. Anyone with first hand intel?

I was there in November, and had a great time. Things are gotten worse since then, but the info in gayguides tells me that if they can survive this pandemic, they will be back up soon.

Do you need to speak Portuguese to get around down there or do they understand English enough?

In my short experience, Brazilians are like Americans in this respect. They expect everyone else to learn their language. You will find of course very educated people, and many do speak English. But if you are talking about sauna boys, very few of them do. If you are planning a visit and your Portuguese is very limited, I recommend you David.

However, using any translation app makes communication easy. The standard one that comes with iPhones works pretty well, but I prefer Google Translate. You can download the dictionaries of the languages you need, and you can use it without being online.

To learn about traveling to Brazil, you are in the wrong place. I strongly recommend you to study the Latin American forums in gayguides. In order to access them, you have to be a member with a certain number of posts, but the wealth of knowledge is impressive.

I am not a denier, and so followed all safety protocols during the flights, rented an airbnb far away from Copacabana in the beach front with a terrace and plenty of air, and substantially reduced the number of partners I usually have. I went only once to each of my fav saunas.

Part of my thrill was traveling during the pandemic, navigating semi deserted airports, and enjoying Rio without international tourists.

Is Prep as common in Brazil as it is in North America? I see lots of bareback Brazilian porn and wonder sometimes.

Yes it is. Brazil was one of the places where Truvada was tried, and it is also currently for some upgrades (there is an experimental injection with an effect lasting several months.

However, sauna boys may not be in the program. I am not sure whether or not the drug is provided for free like in the USA. All the Brazilian porn stars I have met in person are on PrEP, paying for it.

Good to know. Do you have any knowledge of PREP use in Colombia? It's another country with hot sauna boys.
