Gaack. I was supposed to meet again with the young Mexican medical school graduate on Friday, and he showed me results of his Covid19 test from Tuesday due to feeling ill, and it was positive. Trip cancelled. In the meantime, I have a friend from Texas who told me on Monday that he was feeling achy and had a sore throat. I told him to quarantine and get tested. His boss at the restaurant where he works as a waiter took his temperature, found it to be 98.7, and told him to get back to work, though he did get tested. At that restaurant, employees don't even have to wear masks when they're not with customers (i.e. in the kitchen). Well, today he's got a hacking cough and a loss of taste/smell, and I told him I'm 90% sure he has Covid-19 (he gets results on Saturday).

Finally, "Quinn," the Alaska Airlines employee with whom I was intimate last week met his family for a big lovey-dovey gathering on Sunday, right after I left. His mother started getting ill the next day, and has now tested positive herself, so he's probably going to be positive as well (getting tested tomorrow and Sunday). He's now quarantining at my new house. What a mess. Now I've got a week alone. Well, I have another friend I might fly over--one who had Covid-19 this summer, so he's probably pretty safe. With all of these people I see on the news flying across the country for Thanksgiving, I have a feeling we're going to be in for some trouble....

In the meantime, "Lindoro" has continued sending me lovey-dovey texts. But I think things are working out well with Quinn, who's been helping me with my new house (the electricians did some work earlier this week, and I'm also getting TV/internet switched over, and he also got the pool dude into the loop).

I am still amazed that people are waiting so long for test results. I get tested every two weeks and get my test results the next day! ?

I took a test yesterday expecting a 24-48 hours result wait. Was a drive thru test, after doctor swabbed my nasal passage He said “park over there....” 25 mins later a nurse dropped of my negative test results! ??

Was this a PCR test?

If he got his results in 25 minutes, it was a DFA test, not a PCR test. The DFA is fast, but it's less than 70% sensitive. The PCR test amplifies the DNA, so it's far more sensitive, over 90%. Of course, amplifying the DNA takes time.

Is there a difference between a PCR tests and a RT-PCR test? I am thinking of taking a short trip and my destination requires an RT-PCR tests. The places I am seeing offer it in 48-72 hours and a PCR tests in one place in 24-48 hours.

Unicorn,

You are having people over to your house that you are NOT quarantined with as your household. Do you think you are contributing to this pandemic by all of you potentially exposing each other to Covid-19? Do you worry about your risk of contracting Covid-19 and its consequences to your health? If any of your (awesome) escorts or you get Covid-19 you all could be asymptomatic, but unknowingly infect others who may have serious health consequences, even death. Does that concern you? Just curious.

Well, every day at work I and all of my colleagues expose ourselves to multiple patients. They're all supposed to wear masks, but sometimes I come in and they've got their masks under their chins. Just par for the course being a front-line worker. On some days, I see over 20 patients, who are often brought in by other family members. Actually, "Quinn" had the illness last summer, as it turns out, so he's quite safe. If I get it, it will most likely be from occupational exposure.
