DAVID - A gay magazine from the early 1970′s

(Does anybody remember this magazine? I never saw it nor heard of it.)

I can't find much about the magazine but I did find an older one with photographs by a Jean-Paul David.  I wonder if it's the same photographer/producer?

I think David originated in NYC and focused on that area, and even included escort ads. I would buy it occasionally at "Adult" stores in the DC area. Unless, of course, I'm remembering some other magazine altogether, which is not beyond my powers of imagination.

William Haines (1900-1973), American actor and Interior Designer.

In 1926 William met the great love of his life James “Jimmie” Shields. The two men soon began living together and viewed themselves as a committed couple. They remained together until William’s death in 1973. Best friend Joan Crawford once described them as "the happiest married couple in Hollywood”.

In 1933, William Haines was arrested in a YMCA with a sailor he had picked up in Los Angeles’ Perishing Square. Louis B Mayer, the studio head at MGM, delivered an ultimatum to William: choose between a sham “Lavender” marriage (marriages arranged by studio bosses to cover up the true sexuality of their gay stars) or his relationship with Jimmie. William chose Jimmie and gave up acting.

The two men then began a highly successful dual career as Interior Designers and Antique Dealers. Among their clients were friends such as Joan Crawford, Gloria Swanson, Carole Lombard, Marion Davies and George Cukor.

William Haines died of lung cancer on 26th December 1973. Jimmie was heartbroken and inconsolable. Soon after William’s death he took an overdose of sleeping pills. His suicide note read in part, “Goodbye to all of you who have tried so hard to comfort me in my loss of William Haines whom I have been with since 1926. I now find it impossible to go it alone, I am much too lonely”.

The couple are interred side by side in Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Santa Monica.

Identical twin brothers Dirk and Dack Rambo

After moving to Los Angeles in the 1960s the 20-year-old twins were discovered by actress Loretta Young in 1962 and cast in her CBS series” The New Loretta Young Show”.

On February 5th 1967 Dirk Rambo was killed in a road accident at the age of 25.

His brother Dack had a successful career as an actor until the early 1990s and is probably best remembered for playing the character of Jack Ewing in 51 episodes of the soap opera “Dallas” from 1985-1987.

In August 1991 Dack learned that he was HIV positive. He quit acting soon after and took the decision to make his HIV infection and his bisexuality public knowledge, revealing that he had been in relationships with both men and women since his 20s. He died on March 21st 1994 at the age of 52 of complications from AIDS.
