Hotels in Amsterdam and Germany?

One of our favorite regulars (regular favorites?) is bringing us to Amsterdam for a couple of days in November. After that, we're on our own, and thought we'd spend some time there and then head to Berlin for a few days. Does anyone have any suggestions about good, clean & reasonably priced accommodations in either city? Thanks! (We'd ask HooBoy, but he doesn't seem to be answering his phone these days )

This past spring I spent a few nights in Berlin and I stayed at this VERY nice quaint design hotel, superreasonabled priced.

It is in the middle of the gay area (Schoneberg) but not noisy at all, walking distance from bars, discos, Bruno Gmunder HUGE store and subway.

 

It has also by the way a hotel in Amsterdam which I don't know but have been told it's very nice too.

For Amsterdam, not exactly reasonable but oh so worth it - Hotel Pulitzer. Great location, fun variety of rooms & a breakfast buffet worth a stay alone. It became part of Starwood a number of years ago, so maybe some Rewards program offers some discounts, but with the current dollar to euro - suck it up, splurge & enjoy.

Why not go for advise from someone who lives there? Anton, an escort, who posts with some frequency on these boards lives in Amsterdam. He is a great guy and if you email him I'm certain that he would be happy to privide you with some great suggestions. He even posts some Amsterdam hotel recommendations on his web site.

I stayed at the Hotel Pulitzer for two days in June 2006. While the Pulitizer is a nice hotel in a great location, it is VERY expensive.

Berlin is one of my favorite cities. From a sheer sexual energy, availability, and open minded people it is much like NYC pre-Juliani.

 

I love the Schoeneberg gay neighborhood. I always stay at the Art Connection Hotel. This is a gay hotel and the owners are very proud of how nice they have made it.

The area has great resturants, one of the best boy bars in Europe, Tabasco, A great club, Garage (next to hotel)complete with the largest darkroom in Germany. Garage is free for hotel guests. Close to Tom's with its legendary Monday night 2 for one, which packs its darkroom.

 

And those Berlin boys are just so hot!!

I've stayed at The American and the Novotel in Amsterdam. The American is an older, art-deco hotel right in the heart of the old district on one of those damn leidenspleins (?), think plaza, an open area surrounded by shops, restaurants and hotels. You'll pass a few in Amersterdam. Probably a bit on the expensive side, but I'm sure you can find reasonable accomodations. In Berlin I stayed at Ritz-Carlton, and I am assuming you don't want to pay those rates, especially with the recent decline of the dollar versus the euro.

I have one very warm memory of the Art Connection Hotel. I stayed there in 1998, and on my last night I came back from the bars and told the sexy hunk at the desk--whose photo I had seen in an escort ad in a German magazine--that I would need a taxi in the morning to take me to the airport.
