having lunch with my sister & some of her friends, they were talking about a school curriculum that mentioned homosexuality, and one guy was outraged, "the kids are too young to hear about that!"

For myself I think there is such a thing as being to young to be learning about any sexuality. It seems parents dont know where to draw the line between what is appropriate for adults and what is appropriate for children, pre-teen, and teen should should know or even watch. If the child for some reason starts asking about it I think it is more the parents job to give an age appropriate answer such question. I know I am probably in the conservative minority but even Drag Queen story time is way beyond the line what appropriateness for children.

Well certainly not talking about the "nitty gritty" :-) but acknowledging that some boys like boys, some boys like girls, etc. And that some kids will have two mothers, other a mother and a father - no information about what Mom & Mom, or Mom & Dad, are doing in the bedroom. I remember as early as 7 years old having a sort of crush on another boy - knowing that I was NOT the only boy in the world who felt that way would've been nice.
