Fantasia has been starring in the musical The Color Purple since April. She just extended her contract through 2008. I understand she has been the shot in the arm the show needed at the box office ticket sales have increased since she went into the role. Not only that, they say she is very good and has gotten some decent reviews. Good for her. She's also been mentioned as the lead in a new musical production based ont he life of the legendary singer Bricktop.

In May I saw THE COLOR PURPLE; the house was packed, Fantasia was superb, and the musical in general was and has been very, very well received.

A day later of my experiencing this show, one newspaper in NYC had a full page covering Fantasia and other American Idols who've landed on Broadway. This article was moving because the writer equated Fantasia's life (in some respects) to that of Ceile (sp) (the protagonist) of Alice Walker's Pulitizer Prize winning novel.

(To the thread creator: you'll be fine in going to see the New York/Broadway production!)

>appear on Broadway this summer in "The Color Purple".

>Did this happen? Did some of you see it and was she

>good in the part? And the show in general, was it well

I went to see the Color Purple thinking it was about me but then it had all this singing and believe it or not, no one was visibly purple. But it was very enjoyable and Fantasia was Fantastic. She was very in touch with the role and I think her performance was among the best of the Broadway performances I have seen recently

I saw The Color Purple in July and it was really fucking amazing! The cast was great. Fantasia was outstanding. So very much taking on the role of her character and her voice was phenominal... really whispy speaking voice and then when she sang it was all coming from the heart. Highly recommended.
