Any thoughts on the Sahara at the north end of the strip?

Never been inside, but because it's at the tail end of the North side, it is kind of isolated from the typical sights and sounds of the Strip.

I hope with the rebranding though they improve their reputation. The stratosphere did a similar rebranding and remodeling, and was actually very impressed with what they have been able to do

Any thoughts on the Sahara at the north end of the strip?

I stayed there a few years ago after the original Sahara shut down and during the time period it was rebranded as a SLS property since I prefer to stay with Hilton brands due to all our company travel being with Hilton and the benefits. My room was nice but a little awkward, the room they gave me had the bathroom behind the bedroom and the bathroom was up a couple steps like a loft and there was a large window in the shower that looked over the bed which I thought was odd and would be a little freaky if I was sharing the room with a non-sexual friend. Another coworker had a room with a normal bathroom but her room was small. It is near a monorail stop if you want to take that to the southside of the strip and it's convenient for getting downtown but the opposite side of the strip as the airport. It is also convenient to the Stratosphere and circus/circus.

I prefer the Hilton Grand Vacation club on Karen across the street from the sahara next door to the Westgate myself. you don't have to walk through a smoky, crowded casino to get to your room (it's possible to spend a good five to ten minutes getting to your room after you enter a casino hotel) and I can usually get a queen bedroom suite for $100 a night and it has a full kitchen and washer/dryer in the unit and is like having a furnished one bedroom apartment and the rooms are updated.

According to Wikipedia......

The hotel was built in 1952.

The Beatles stayed there....in 1964.

And “the Sahara's decline began as early as 1966”

What more do you need to know?

It's the new Sahara. It's been totally redone over the last year.

They did a nice job with it, although it can't ever really overcome its piss-poor location on the strip.

No. Very few do.

Mostly the off-strip Marriotts/Hyatts/Hiltons.

Really? Okay, thanks for that information. But it prompts another, equally obvious question, why the gosh darn not? An Uber/Lyft from the airport is a waste of $20+ bucks for a fairly short ride. I know its nothing in the scheme of things, but still.

One, because it keeps the local cab/rideshare economy going.

And two, casinos in Vegas don't need to put money into transportation when they have a good chunk of strong profit coming in from gambling and alcohol revenues. For them to keep a fleet of vans/busses for airport pickups seems like a waste of money.

Vegas is a city of discretionary spending. No longer is the $15 buffet and the $30 evening show. They're in it to win it.

What happens in Vegas... can cost you next month's mortgage payment.

This is probably an obvious question. Do all the hotels/casino on The Strip have airport shuttles?

BN answered this pretty good (and with a much hotter avatar), but I can add the following:

It's been a bazillion years since I caught a free hotel shuttle there from a strip casino.... rest in peace Westward-Ho.

The casino's find it a much better model to send a car or limo for their invited guests. In addition, traffic on the strip is so unpredictable, they wouldn't be on schedule very often if they did.

Besides the taxi and uber/lyft options, you can catch a shared shuttle for around $18 roundtrip. Some of the players are (or were) Bell Trans, Las Vegas Shuttle Service and LASxpress.

Finally, if even that is not to your liking... I have caught the CAT (Westcliff Airport Express)bus https://www.rtcsnv.com/ways-to-travel/transit-services/airport-transit-routes/ in those days where money was a huge concern. Last time I took it, it was a few bucks or so each way and dropped off at the strip/Tropicana. It isn't ideal carrying luggage if you have to go further up or down the strip!

ps: I may be there May 14th myself, although the odds are looking more and more like this trip will be cancelled
