I got hooked on watching the tryout shows on Sunday nights for the new Broadway production of "Grease". Of the final 12 (6 girls and 6 guys) trying out for the roles of Sandy and Danny, they were all good in their way. Great singing and dancing and were a delight to watch. But from the very start there was one guy who just looked rather "nerdy" but he could sing and dance very well. His name was Max. Another guy that I just really fell for was Austin. Great body, lean but muscled, great

face with dimples and a wonderful dancer and singer. Well these two were the final two guys. I could not believe that Austin did not win.

I personally don't think that Max (the nerdy looking one) will be a convincing Danny, but we will see. But Austin really stole my old heart!;-) ;-) But the American public selected the winners with the call-in type voting that American Idol made so popular.

I missed several of the shows, but never tire of Austin Miller:

According to gossip columnist Billy Masters, Kathleen Marshall is good friends with Austin's *cough* roommate and had all but promised him the job. When they announced that there was a 1% point spread I was *sure* the fix was on, and was really surprised at the result.

Austin was also my choice -- until the final night. I've actually seen him on stage in "Hairspray" and he is a great performer.

But on the show last night there was one song where Austin and Max "shared" the vocals. During one part of the song I was looking away from the TV when a strong, dynamic voice started singing. I was sure it was Austin until I looked at the screen and saw it was Max.

Max has really come a long way in his vocals and stamina. There have been a couple of times when Austin seemed out-of-breath when both singing and doing the dance routines. The "gymnastics" of the role seemed less of an issue for Max.

I think either one could do a great job. But, I sure have no complaints about Max.

Was also impressed by what both of those guys have overcome. Austin was a 10-year old fat kid and has sure turned that around. (The fat-boy pix of him has been taken down from his site and I can no longer find it.)

Max had Bells Palsy as a kid and went through a lot of rehab over that. He's made a great recovery.

I am sure that as the attendance drops for the show, the second place finishers will be brought on to great fan fare to try and lure back the crowds. Just another level of novelty casting.
