I've had no trouble with it today and just checked my mail a few minutes ago. However, I could have just been lucky. Since the last "upgrade" a few months ago I have found the downloading for e-mails takes longer than in the past. I am considering migrating over to g-mail.

If your only complaint with Yahoo is the occassional system outage, then don't migrate to gmail. It is a great tool and has many good features (my fave is that it automatically groups messages by subject, much like a thread here on the message board), however, it tends to go down pretty frequently. Last week (I think it was Thursday, could have been Wednesday) it was down all evening. Generally, the outages are for less than thirty minutes, but if you need to read a message during that thirty minute time period you are in trouble. I use both yahoo and gmail. Gmail is where I receive my, ahem, "adult" and non-critical e-mails and yahoo is for everything else. (full disclosure: AT&T/Yahoo is my DSL provider. Much better than cable in my area). I have configured gmail so that it retrieves yahoo mail. That way, if gmail goes down I can still see important messages via yahoo.

Thanks for the responses guys. I have SBCGlobal DSL yahoo for my public account and can access that just fine today. It's my "adult" account on yahoo that is giving me fits. I feel better knowing I am not the only one having trouble.

That makes sense. There are several "flavors" of Yahoo mail. (And the same happens with Hotmail/LiveMail or whatever they're calling it this week.)

There's the free-for-anyone version, the for-pay version, and the hybrid you get as an AT&T (ptoo!) DSL customer.

They're entirely different systems, but when people talk about them it's always just "Yahoo mail".

This doesn't help you get your mail at all :9, but it may help explain why different people see different behavior on Yahoo mail.
