Just watched this last night at the met. Wonderful production. DIdn’t realize Kathleen Turner until the end that she was the Countess of Krakenthorp. Looked like a fun role for her. Both leads soprano (Pretty Yende) and tenor (Javier Camarena) were spectacular.

 

So lucky to have seen the excellent tenor perform 18 high C's!!

Great singing by Javier Camarena. However this is a very light weight Opera. I have seen it once in Sydney in 1986 with Joan Sutherland in the lead.

Saw La Stupenda at The Met many times. No matter the opera, when La Stupenda was in it it was never really light weight.

It is so lightweight that I only managed to sit through a whole performance once, even with Dame Joan.

La Stupenda was way before my time.... so glad others had a chance to see her live! I only have her recordings.

Listening to it this evening. I am quite enjoying it. It is on the lighter side, but it has a a nice score, and wonderful singing!
