From time to time there are guys who post here who know a hell of a lot more than I do about computers and software upgrades. I do recall that the last time I tried to upgrade the FireFox browser, I had nothing but trouble with it and ended up asking our friend from Boston to send me a copy of the older version so I could go back to it. Does anyone know if they have worked out the bugs in the newer versions? I keep running into software programs that tell me over and over that I am running an older version of FireFox and that my software is incompatible.

Is it safe to upgrade yet?

Thanks guys, you are the best.

There is the odd time where for what ever reason Internet Explorer doesn't work for me... then I use Opera. I think its a fairly nice program.

General rule of thumb about updates/upgrades: NEVER be in the first wave.

Let the nerds and early adopters get the kinks worked out first.

Unless there's something you really, really need that you just can't get without the update/upgrade you'll just be competing with the stampede for the first few days of a new release. Their servers will be over-loaded, downloads will get interrupted, and all hell may break loose.

Having said that, what version are you running? Version 2.0 is stable now and they just updated it (today, I think).

I switched to Mozilla about 2 years ago and was using version 1.5.0.2 (I think that's the version) with no serious problems. However, I did note that in the last 6 months I was getting more pop-up ads when visiting certain sites.)

About 2 weeks ago I upgraded (free) to version 2.0.

Since the upgrade I've noticed a real improvement in response time and most of the pop-ups have stopped. In addition, this upgrade automatically searches for new files to help prevent hackers and spyware. So far it's updated itself a couple of times (similar to my virus protection and firewall software).

Also installed this version on two other PCs that are about 5 years old. It made a huge different in response time.

I have 2 friends that previously used IE and they had massive problems with spyware. Problems were correct immediately when they switched to Mozilla. They're upgrading to 2.0 shortly.

I highly recommend Mozilla and the new 2.0 version. (BTW, I'm running on a Pentium III, 996 MHz, 384 MB of RAM, Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP2.)
