Although when I visited Brasil, while a (?very) Catholic country seemed to have a very fluid sense of sexuality, at least the ability to participate in "gay" sex to varying degrees without much, if any, guilt. I suppose perhaps the guys' act of contrition was the cash going into their pockets. It would be interesting to find out from Latbear4blk (who I believe is from Argentina, another very Catholic - although Spanish rather than Portuguese origins) if Argentina has the same sort of sexual fluidity.

It's possible "machismo" plays a role in Mediterranean, Middle East, and Central/South American straight men who have sex with men. The "Active" role is seen as masculine and Dominant so it's completely okay for a straight man to be serviced by a passive/bottom. Or it could be the "ease" of obtaining sexual pleasure with another man without any "drama" or attachments. There are multiple possibilities. I would love to hear opinions and experiences from someone like @latbear4blk who grew up in such a culture. Though, it's difficult to generalize, it's always worth hearing personal experiences.

Here's an interesting ethnographic paper about a Brazilian fishing village.

When you say "who grew up in the culture" you are making a huge generalization. I can speak of my personal experience which only includes Argentina in the last decades of the last century. Things are different over there right now.

I started my homosexual life in the late seventies, secretly, in the mid 80s, openly. In those times the figure of the "chongo" (masculine man self identified as straight, who has occasional intercourse with other men as a top) was already defusing, killed by the raise of sexual orientation identities. I did have a few experiences with this kind of men, mostly in Argentina's countryside, or guys from the countryside I met in Buenos Aires. It is a dying species. The fundamentalists of binary sexuality who abound in these forums won that battle, although fortunately are now losing the war.

I remember once when I was in the military service (1981, Corrientes, Argentinean northeast), an ambulance driver tried to seduce me sharing how much he enjoyed fucking faggots, how his dick felt so much better in the tight ass of a man, compared with how lose it felt inside a pussy. I was closeted back them, I rejected him showing how offended I was. And then spent years masturbating at the memory.

I remember another occasion, in the late 80s in Buenos Aires. I picked up a very masculine guy at Av. Santa Fe, he warned me he was married and with children but enjoyed fucking a guy sometimes. I was still experimenting with bottoming back then, and although was not enjoying it, I was getting fucked sometimes. We went home and the first thing he did was going for my dick. This is where the story becomes interesting. He would suck my dick voraciously, but he would say he was eating my pussy and asking me if I was liking how he was playing with my pussy. I fucked him in the missionary position, he busted with my dick inside, and never saw him again.

Again, this is just my experience in Argentina when the XX century was fading.

I have talked with many Americans who shared how here in the States this was also regular currency, specially in suburban and rural settings or around military bases (where many man coming from rural areas were together), back in the pre-Stonewall times.

I've been watching Marcelo Briem Stamm's very artful XXX movies. These Argentinian men in his movies seem super macho and have me continuing to wonder how many of the actors are g4p, and whether some of the characters are supposed to be guys that want to be sucked now and then or want a tight hole, and that the character feels no stigma about it. Yes, these are movies, not real life, yet the film creator is exploring behavior that probably does happen.

I've known a lot of married guys or guys with a girlfriend that wanted it. I was always too reserved to ask what was their agenda, and so now I am left with these theories of mine. Funny how some simple questions could have cleared things up, or at least added some helpful detail.

Malachi Marx is a gay for pay escort (https://rentmen.eu/Malachi_Marx/) who has some thoughts on this matter. From a 2010 "Dining with Strangers" interview with Marx:

"I know what to appreciate out of males but I have no desire to have sex with them for pleasure. I’ve never done anything gay if I haven’t been paid for it. I put on a game face, a facade, a character, and I make money” being gay for pay, he added.

I asked Malachi how much longer he intends to stay in the gay for pay world, especially with the money being so bountiful. “It’s great money and a fast lifestyle if your mind and body can handle it. But I’ll be so glad to get out of it,” he said."

&

"Malachi filmed his most recent scene for Randy Blue earlier in July, and he says this one will really be his last for them — barring the need for more funds.

He said it was stressful getting back in front of the camera, surrounded by blinding fluorescent lights while getting it on with another man. "It was difficult. There’s this intense heat from the lights shining on you, and four crew people are watching you, and it’s stop-go, stop-go. I had the biggest headache and I came home and I threw up. It fucked me up."

For Malachi, the experience brought back the lowest points about being gay for pay. “There were times when I’d come home sick, I didn’t know who I was.” He said he managed to clear his thoughts up and stay focused by concentrating on the money he’d make from a client or video. During those sessions, he’d mentally fixate on the various girlfriends he had (which his partner allowed and had often participated with) and earnings in order to get through it."

“Straight, Gay, they all want blowjobs.”

Rita Rudner

Comedienne

I would never do Survivor, but when I've watched that show, I've been very curious to know if straight men enjoy getting sucked off by other men. Again, I'd never be a contestant (unless I could be guaranteed the $1 million), but I do wonder if I were, how the straight men there would react to an offer to be sucked off. Do any of you know any research or have any idea how most straight men feel about having a gay man suck them off?
