When I was a teen and went to get my first driver's licence the tester forgot to check whether the brake lights and turn signals were working before he got in the car so he made me do the hand gestures.

I actually saw a woman do it several months ago. She was trying to get from the right lane into the left lane because traffic had to merge, and she had her hand extended out. First time I saw that (or have used them myself when I was driving a wreck with no turn signals) in over 40 years.

We are now being invaded by people on rentable scooters. They are supposed to be in the street but most go on the sidewalk. Have not seen them use any signals.

They are probably even more dangerous if they try to drive the scooter with only one hand while giving signals.
