Could I ask a very basic question coming from down under? What is the exact meaning of “bump” in this context?

 

Bump means that the "Thread" has been dormant and no one is making comments about it so you want to Bump it back into prominence to get more feedback/response.

 

Sorta like bumping a topic from the bottom of the chain (or queue) to the top of the chain.

 

A member can keep bumping a topic to the top of the list, or just give up.

It puzzled me for a time also. After checking the urban dictionary site, I found the following definition:

 

bump BUMP to bring up somebody's post typically by posting the word "bump" on a message board

Can also stand for

Up
