I could swear I've read something here or elsewhere about the beneficial effects of men over 50 having frequent sex and their "much happier" heart and prostate. Can anyone help me find some "reasoned" research? }(

check this article in Men's Health:

below is the specific paragraph from the article, but it doesn't give an exact reference for the study mentioned:

Another way to reduce the risk is to engage the prostate's self-cleaning cycle. Researchers in Australia recently queried more than 1,000 men with prostate cancer about their ejaculation rates and compared the results with data obtained from a comparable group of healthy men. These researchers discovered that men who ejaculated frequently between the ages of 20 and 50 were at markedly lower risk of developing prostate cancer. Even more provocatively, men in their 20s who ejaculated at least five times a week were one-third less likely to develop aggressive prostate cancer during their mature years. All those high-school P.E.-class jokes assume new meaning when I ponder the clear health benefits of chronic masturbation.

The best kind of research in this subject, called "randomized clinical trials" (i.e. randomly assign half of the men to ejaculate more, and tell half to ejaculate less), unfortunately would be difficult if not impossible to do. Nevertheless, so far non-randomized data suggest that avoiding ejaculation not only increases a man's risk of prostate cancer, but also of BPH, in which the prostate just becomes enlarged and congested (leading to difficulty emptying one's bladder).

The best kind of exercise for one's heart is aerobic (i.e. swimming, bicycling, jogging, hiking, or even walking). I'm not familiar with any data to suggest that sex either helps or hurts, cardiovascular-wise. Since sex involves surges of catecholamines (i.e. adrenalin, etc.), one needs to be cautious in engaging in sexual activities if one has an unstable cardiac status (such as after a heart attack and before cardiac rehabilitation).

By either having sex or jacking off. Hire an escort--make your prostate happy.

OK, I see. The phrase, "Self-Cleaning Cycle" had me confused. It sounded like it was a special mode of the prostate that had to be enabled somehow. :)
