The theater, located at 729 Bush Street, will close Sunday, August 19, at 6 p.m., after an appreciation barbecue for customers and appearances by house performers.

The theatre, a 3,272 square foot property built in 1911, was sold to a buyer "who will not be using it for an adult club," said Zephyr commercial Realtor Steven "Stu" Gerry, the listing agent. The buyer's real estate agent would not comment about the property's next use, said Gerry.

Sad to see that it will be closed. Had some fun times there (circle jerk with pornstars and private dances with performers there). San Francisco is getting less fun! Anyone know any other spots in the Bay Area that is similar to the Nob Hill Theatre?

Saddened... but I havent been in there in 10+ years. And the advertised dancers havent appealed to me in years. So, I wont complain about a death I did nothing to prevent.

I'd guess its a confluence of events. Real estate is surely a factor. As is internet porn, camshows, Grindr, and even changing acceptance, social norms. I wont lament if younger gays dont want lapdances, dont demand gloryholes and bathhouses, or even gay bars, because theyre comfortable being open in other public venues.

I am going to try and make it out there before they close, but I am so booked up I don't know if I can. On the one hand i will miss the whole dirtiness and let it all hang out nature of the place. On the other hand, the dancers were really getting to be pretty poor, and if it wasn't for the porn stars I probably would have stopped going there a long time ago. Get a porn star in a bathhouse and you have the same thing.

glad I got to check out the Nob Hill a couple times over the last couple years.....a friendly staff person at the desk explained it all to me on my first visit and made it all very easy to navigate......watched one of their "sex shows" on the last visit as a solo patron a few seats away jacked off to his heart's content!.....ha!......

all this only two short blocks away from the nearly-priceless real estate up on Nob Hill (Fairmont, Mark Hopkins, the PU Club, Grace Cathedral, Stanford Court)......

The article lists a few events and suggests some others before closing. Will have to watch...

Maybe the lineup of porn actors will be better in coming weeks. Or even some more house dancers who just want to do it one more timel

Personally, Id attend an event of former performers, now appearing as hot daddys to say goodbye.

The correlation I'm imagining between The Nob and Broadway's Hello, Dolly! closing is making me sit here and laugh uncontrollably.

Couldn't we just get Jeff Stryker to come back to close the place? Is he a Bette Midler equivalent?

@BroadwayDave, would you get tickets to Nob Hill's closing performance?

Never saw Stryker.

From my era of porn and Nobhill attendaces... it would be Ryan Idol. Only performer I ever saw fill the place to capacity. Except, while he was a draw, he was a boring live show.

I’ll let those “memories” stay in my head. Makes me feel old, though. Guess I am. ;)

End of an era, that's for sure. Sad! Lots of fun times at Nob Hill Theater when I was "exploring"....... I remember the first time I went, a bit nervous, pretty young, feeling that tinge of excitement and anxiety when the announcer said on the loudspeaker, "If you like what you see, feel free to whip it out....."

And then the sex shows.......
