Just returned from Canada Day weekend in Montreal, with long summer days and very high temperatures day and night.

I'll admit to having had some reservations about this trip. I knew that long time favorites like Yannick would not be at Stock and Spencer performs very rarely.

Thursday at Stock was extremely quiet. Saturday was typically very busy. Friday and Sunday were both moderately busy.

There were lots of new dancers. Morgan was very good at working the crowd on stage. Franco's physique is phenomenal. Had private dances with Jaycob and Rico. Sadly, I didn't see Chris all weekend, who I missed having a dance with last year.

Joe has stopped dancing, but is now working for the club as staff and seems very happy with his new job.

I didn't have time to visit Campus, but recognized a lot of former Stock dancers hanging around outside.

The real takeaway from the trip was it looks like The Village has really turned a corner.

A few years ago The Village really looked like it was in a state of permanent decline. Last year's new openings Bar Renard and District Video lounge are going strong. There were a lot of new shops and restaurants that I didn't recognize from last year. A new diner La Dînette à Mado has opened next to Cabaret Mado. There's still a lot of vacant real estate but it isn't as noticeable.

The old Bourbon complex has now been demolished and the condo building that will replace it is marketing for pre-sales:

Look forward to returning for Labor Day weekend.

Thanks for your report. It’s hard to go wrong with either Jaycob or Rico. Both very handsome and well-hung.

Stock has evolved somewhat in the last year. They seem to have more variety with their dancers....including some very skinny guys. I prefer the alpha muscle types myself...but I’m ok with more variety in the dancers if that helps make the club more viable.

Glad you had a good time.

I had exactly the same reaction when I was there a couple of weeks ago. A local source reports that the derelict evangelical church at the corner of Papineau will be coming down soon, to be replaced by condos. And there is an upscale development at Montcalm and Rene-Levesque that is being heavily advertised in Fugues.

Several years ago, a local friend told me that the Village was about to gentrify (based on various things, including the relative proximity of the new University Hospital). His prediction seems to be coming true.

A former Stock dancer whom I met at Campus claimed that there was a mass migration of 15 Stock dancers to Campus around December (IIRC, this was reported here in the MC at the time). When I challenged him about the number, he started counting on his fingers and, without much difficulty, came up with 12.

Didn't a bunch quit and go on to other things around then also - jobs, school etc.?

It's a massive hospital

The hospital E.R. I went to was located on Ste Catherine and St Denis. It would be interesting to know if there is better quality service at the University Hospital?

On other fronts, I always see that huge hospital while taking the 747 Aeroport bus back to YUL.

That hospital is way outside of the city centre.

Not within walking distance for sure, it's a fairly direct Metro connection though, as is a lot of the City, but then I didn't bring this up anyway.

The hospital you went to was St. Luc. The newest university hospital is located where St. Luc used to be. Montreal now has two university hospitals or health centres.

The University of Montreal Health Centre (CHUM) is at Ste Catherine and St Denis.

Those five or six black towers shown on their home page are all part of the centre.

The one you see flying into Montreal is the McGill University Health Centre which is further from downtown towards the west.

A current stock dancer told me not long ago that the dancers that left for campus were either fired for whatever reason or left stock because they were not making money.

I was at stock not long ago and a dancer named tyson have having some temper tantrum after drinking with a customer that is called CG, tyson was screaming at the DJ and threatened to assault the DJ for telling Tyson he had to go on stage and was fired on the spot.

This incident was loud enough to hear over the music.

Some dancers thought that stock had to many dancers and campus had less and they had a better chance of making more at campus.

I was also told that the manager at stock is very strict about drug use at stock and at campus they sell drugs openly so dancers using drugs isn't a problem.

There might be something said about stocks manager that stock still has curtains and campus was forced to remove there for various reasons.

My last visit to campus a dancer asked me if i wanted to do a line of coke off his penis.

Last night on the live feed from stock I saw that Alejandro returned to stock. I hope he stays for my next trip in a few week.

As i have said before I cant spend a cent at campus. I don't have any respect for a bars owner that profits from selling its dancers drugs.

That is a pretty serious allegation. Your statement lacks any merit. An unreliable dancer spreading that rumor is pretty dangerous for business.

Poppie, it not unreliable when when you see it with your own eyes and have it offered to you.

Don't be protective of drug dealers.

As for merit, if nothing is true a dancer says than hundreds of posts here lack any.

It's widely known that the management at Campus has a much higher tolerance for drug use by dancers and customers than is allowed at Stock. I don't doubt Tweetybird's comments at all.

Thanks!

I think the hospital I saw on the 747Aeroport bus (from downtown Montreal to YUL) is called the "MEGA" Hospital?

It seemed far away from Ste Catherine/ste Denis.

Both University health centres/hospitals are Mega hospitals. CHUM on the corner of Rene Levesque and St Denis, and MUHC in the Glen just west of Westmount.

A practical question: is it still $20 Canadian for a dance?

:-)

PS From what I remember, Stock was a little classier with curtains, larger and better lit booths, etc. but I felt comfortable in both places.

The downside of Stock for many is the webcast, I don't like it when my picture pops up on Facebook when a friends posts it, much less to be splashed on screens worldwide to people watching strip shows.

Unless your sitting at the stage the chances your face will be on the live feed is almost zero.

There are also MANY places inside the club that you would never be able to be seen while your there. (if you need help with those locations just ask the manager)

As for Face Book, those pictures are only taken on Ladies Night. Again, unless your sitting at the stage or posing for the photographer you wouldnt be in a picture.

Oh, I am coming, I figured it's not an issue if you sit at the right angle, I am just saying that some may be intimidated by it.

Back to the most important question, is it still $20 a dance? :-)

Yes, still $20/song. Now whether the guy counts accurately or not is a different question!

Thank you. You're correct that the hospital I see on the way back to the aeroport is MUHC. It looks huge.

On other fronts, I went to the ER on a Saturday night around 9pm because I needed to start PEP after being exposed to HIV by a dancer/escort from Taboo. The interesting thing is, had my emergency occurred during the weekday Mon-Fri, or earlier in the day Saturday , I wouldn't have had to spend nearly $1500 at the ER.....as I was told there are several Clinics and/or Outreach places in Montreal that offer PEP for free or significantly reduced costs. I was told it's "common" protocol and they are used to dolling out PEP in large Canadian cities like Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver.

In BC, starting on January 1, 2018, PReP has been made available to high-risk groups for free. It's part of prevention. Aim is to have 5,000 high risk individuals on PReP, part of the public health strategy to have the HIV infection rate reduced by 85% by 2020.

I think that's a great idea. I wish it was available sooner, and worldwide. My local gay doctor in Royal Oak , Michigan offers it to his patients for full price, but at least he offers it to them (as long as they agree to adhere to the strict med schedule). Michigan offers it free if you're on Medicaid.

Watching the live feed from Stock last night, I see that former dancer and Stock Idol winner, Junior, is back dancing again. My recollection is that Junior left Stock shortly after winning Stock Idol. I would say that was about 18 months ago....but I could be wrong about that. When he left Stock, I'm not sure if he went to another club to dance or if he simply stopped dancing altogether. Anyway, good to see him back again.
