Gay Couples - Donald Windham and Sandy Campbell Donald Windham (1920 – 2010) was an American novelist and memoirist. He is perhaps best known for his close friendships with Truman Capote and Tennessee Williams. Sandy Campbell (1922 –1988) was a Broadway actor, and later editor and publisher, mainly for his life-partner, Donald Windham. Sandy Campbell met Donald Windham in 1943 while Campbell was modeling for painter Paul Cadmus. The relationship lasted until Campbell’s death in 1988. Campbell left his estate to Windham with the agreement that, at Windham’s death, the remaining of the estate would be used to create a literary prize. The Donald Windham Sandy M. Campbell Literature Prizes was established in 2011 by Yale University.

Man danced with men where there were no dames in the olden days. And nobody thought anything about it. Some thoughts below: A “Stag Dance” for Cowboys. It is a known fact that homosexual friendships were common among cowboys. This begs the question, in any all male community, especially in the past, such as military, religious, penal, educational, do sexual relationships form among men because no women are available, or do men seek to join such communities for the sexual opportunities? It may be both.

Three young undergraduates from the late 19th century. I don’t know what the one sat on the floor is up to, but he seems quite pleased.
