Sometimes it’s a personal choice just like not wearing a mask or not getting vaccinated… It’s OK for us all to have personal choices. My personal belief and action standard isn’t that “nobody” should wear masks or that “everybody” should wear masks but, we are free to choose what is best for us and what’s best in our unique situations~ Dissemination and accuracy of information has been both good and quite lacking at times in the past at best, (globally and historically). So, I look at many different sources and experiences and make my own decision~ My choice is to wear masks because, it protects me and that better protects the people that I’m with. There is nothing in my choice that is political, religiously or corporately driven~ It is simply my choice as my conscience guides me. Covid isn’t gone, the flu is not gone, pneumonia is not gone, cancer is not gone, diabetes isn’t gone, etc., if anything, more keeps coming. I take my precautions as is necessary in my world. Other peoples worlds might be different and not need masks but, my world works better if I wear a mask and nurture the things that provide safty for my self and those around me.

Yup… I still wear them in the airports, on planes, at concerts, on cruises and tours, in the theaters in London and NYC… I especially wear them in public in places with low vaccination and high incidence rate of covid, colds and flu. I don’t just wear masks for covid but, that’s part of it~ I also mask in hospitals and when attending medical appointments with my Clients~ Masking works in favor of my vulnerable Clients as well as myself: I can’t work if I’m sick~ If they get sick, they most likely aren’t hiring~ Still vaxing here… I’m on Covax 6~ Got my bivalent today. Happy to show my Vax records and I still carry covid tests to test before seeing Clients to show them I don’t have covid.

Here are a few reasons: hotels, airfare, auto fuel costs, car rental: Just to example hotels costs: below are rates for Monday/Tuesday night stays in Manhattan that were up on Orbitz as of Sept 24th 2022. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday are more expensive by $50 to $250 more per night and that is before taxes, service fees and the resort/destination feee the hotels charge beyond your Mon/Tue room rate~ Places I usually run for under $200/mon-tuesday night are now anywhere from $350 to $600… much more then usual~ The hotel that used to run a provider $2,500 for four days is now perhaps 1/2 as much more or doubled that price~ When the overhead for a business increases, the business increases the costs of its product(s). What happens if they don’t~? I guess some businesses can cut down on employees and the expenses that comes with them but, a service provider doesn’t typically have multiple employees. There’s more like one or two~ (making exception to FFO etc). People were complaining about Covid because, it was keeping them at home and away from their jobs… Now suddenly, people are moving back into some facsimile of daily living that tries to fulfill the fantasy of returning to life pre-2020 but, why all the employee shortages, reduced operating hours, quality in services and product availability~? There are various answers. The risk factor alone is something of worthy consideration: covid, monkey pox, (in addition to the usual colds and flu or unlikely sti situation). Covid is not just something that happens once in the fall or in the spring… It’s constant and ongoing. A providers risk of exposure is significantly greater than say a healthcare professional who wears a mask with their patients or other businesses that have the option of wearing a mask while they work. Typically you’re not gonna find a provider wearing a mask while they are providing to a given Client~ It seems unethical, immoral and bad business practice to be sick with either monkeypox or Covid, (which are extremely communicable), and see Clients~ Both of those diseases will take a provider out for several weeks… weeks without sick pay or perhaps any other income~ As a handshake requires two hands, Providers are not the only ones getting sick. Clients are as well prone to illness and this can lead to cancelations, scheduling and rescheduling conflicts, permanent illness in some cases that take Clients or providers out of the event altogether and permanently~ As the demographics of safety standards and rates of infection (or potential for it), change, so does the availability and perhaps willingness of both Provider and Client~ Not all Clients are single and gay… there is some noteworthy percentage of hiring Clients that are married, straight identifying, have families, children, jobs of any profile, ailing partners/parents/spouses~ Neither getting monkey pox nor the vaccines for it seem a reasonable consideration when coming home to a wife or family members who might not sympathize with a Client’s sexual tastes or the idea that they indulge in something so intimate beyond the relationship at home~ Even if not for covid and health related reasons, as inflation rises, a providers personal costs and business overhead increases as well~ It makes sense that a providers rates would likewise increase~ It may feel natural and seem reasonable for Clients to contest and move to drive the prices down. It may happen where some providers lower their rates to bring in business but, honestly what industry has that worked with where driving down the prices resulted in a higher quality product~?
