I have heard that parts of the Balkans are very nice places to live or visit for extended periods, such as Slovenia and Croatia. I have not been to either, but everyone I know who has gone found no issues with the language because most of the population has at least a working level of English - except perhaps in the most rural areas. I'm not sure what the medical system is like in either place, but I would imagine it may be better in Slovenia than Croatia. Balkan food can also be very tasty!

Male guests get the pull-out sofa (I don't have a guest room). Female guests get my room and I take the sofa. I guess I'm old fashioned like that. Fresh sheets and pillow cases for either. And a set of earplugs because I apparently snore. I really up my game by having an extra roll of toilet paper on the back of the toilet, and I might even make coffee. I'm essentially the Ritz.

True, but hydropower is still the source of about a quarter of Ontario's electricity, if I recall correctly. And I think it's definitely more than half for Canada as a whole, which is why I mentioned the majority. It might even be approaching 60%.
