Directors can be a bit narcissistic sometimes. These creatives can be so tiresome, right? This was Cuaron's Mejico and his childhood. So maybe he did get a little bit too wrapped around his own axel. But we viewers can be perfectionists. I find myself picking apart movies like Black Panther and Call Me by Your Name for pushing the creatives' political ideas when in the end these come across more like the kitchen sink, as if we should accept everything at face value. (Then why put it in the movie?) For Roma, these ideas were well developed. I loved how a tune from Jesus Christ Superstar played on the turntable at the rich folk's party, although I'm sure some would find it too obvious. I read the New Yorker synopsis this morning that mentioned some viewers may find it too calculated by half. Countless others will swoon. I'm a little bit of both. Below, Cuaron and his own childhood nanny.

A lot of folks hated the Soprano's final episode. But to me it made sense, way better than Six Feet Under ending which really jumped the shark for such a good show. I appreciate how The Sopranos included the character Vito Spatafore, and explored being gay and in the mob.

Continued my evening Netflix parade of shows. Tried watching Shitt$ Creek tonight (after watching Roma) and had to switch it off. Probably won't try again. Instead watched epi 1 of Bodyguard. Liked it. I'll continue with epi 2. It's one of those thrillers with an edge. I am drawn to a lot of British television so Bodyguard seems like it will be my cup o' tea.

I thought it was better than Black Panther (which wasn't bad), but judging by all the comments above, I'm probably alone in that. Takes place in the early 1970s in Mejico City. Beautifully shot and full of symbolism. The themes include how native people continued to be cheated out of their land, how they survive on low wage jobs and how women have gotten the short end of the stick over the decades. The haves don't appreciate and protect what should be more dear to them, including the land they've taken. Political unrest, and violence amplify man's inhumanity to man, and bring tragic consequences. All of that can seem like a chore to watch after 2+ hours, but I still remained a fan of the movie. The story verged on becoming maudlin at a couple points but not nearly as much as Blank Panther seemed to me. The political ideas were more subtle than Black Panther. I think that works better for movies, to keep it subtle, when politics are used as a theme, although the other comments reported it turned out a bit dull. For me, subtle is closer to what's happening on screen. Yalitza Aparicio was perfect in that role as Cleo. I question whether it is the kind of role that brings a Best Actress award. Her dialogue was minimal. Her performance was right on the money.

I agree. This thread seems more like another TMZ situation, spending energy going low.

Are you making a conscious decision to interrupt this Kaye Ballard thread. twice? Or at a minimum it seems thoughtless.

When I was a wee lad, I rode the train into Manhattan from Connecticut, with my aunt. Saw two shows, one of them Pirates of Penzance with Kaye Ballard. On YouTube. From a live TV performance, Cinderella. With Kaye Ballard and Alice Ghostly.

Same here. I knew Rami Malek was good from Mr. Robot. The whole movie was good. At the Arclight in Pasadena no one moved when the credits rolled, as if we all needed to take a breath, and then we were rewarded with clips of queen. So good.

Some clues after two epi. I noticed two of the three drinking nail polish remover. I expect all three need it. Something happened to Michael's hand, likely had to do with Alex, how Michael was staring at the photo of the two, and remembering The lyric on Rosa's hand Fractured Zodiac is from the Third Eye Blind song they play when Alex and Michael break their 10 year drought. God of Wine. Love Michael's character, especially in that scene, with that song. Good stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vz2tL6Xavhg:19

2nd epi last night. Still liking it. Tension and angst. I like how Michael, Alex and Max all found ways to break the tension as epi 2 wrapped up. It's still a little bit cornball. "I'm a scientist. It's what I do." But I'm OK with a little cornball. stream epi 2

Perhaps the band's involvement helped avoid Hollywood sending the story off the rails. I got the sense in the movie that Roger Taylor was a noble hot head, that he took the split especially hard, and that he and FM had an unspoken bond. Not a perfect movie, but it really rocked. I loved it. The film was beautifully shot. I recommend seeing it at a movie theater. I'd see it again. Rami Malek was superb. If he doesn't get nominated for an Oscar, will be a tremendous snub. Box office worldwide is approaching $800,000,000, with huge numbers in Japan and S Korea. Box Office Estimates

A straight dude named Tim in Long Beach. His massage was very therapeutic. He was so sweet. His hair was a bit long. So pretty! I always fantasized something would happen but nothing did. I was a good boy. Never crossed any lines. Tim showed me various stretching techniques. He gave nice hugs good bye. Lost his contact info. He doesn't list his ad any longer. Moved on to a 9 to 5 situation.

Fun! We know a gay couple or two. My go-to friend for opera and symphony is straight. I'm an open minded fellow. -

The majority of gay men are single. Not sure if everyone realizes that. One school of thought is that people meet their spouse through mutual friends. That is how I met mine. Years ago I moved for work. Had to start a new social network. Takes effort though. I'm a little bit shy in person. But I try. Examples: Next month I'm attending a gay book club. I'm excited about meeting some bookworms. I've met friends at gay film festivals. I met a nice couple while vacationing in Palm Springs. I'm trying the PS gathering this year. I take part in a monthly workshop. -
