The "shame" comes from the tradition of men enticing other men with money. That's often the context of these discussions. In reality the real "shame", if there is one, is being a prostitute in straight life; why the reverse in gay life? My #1 is a nude stripper who does lapdances and private dances, does cam shows with his gf for straight men and for gays he's alone, is a power bottom, and always has a wallet full of Ben Franklins. But these are all "tips" from "friends" from times that he's "in the mood"(and the surest way to get him in the mood is a handful of Ben Franklins). He, for one, gets outraged by a suggestion he's a prostitute using gay men. He is "bi-sexual" with generous gay friends. At least we've come that far where it's no longer proper to talk of using gay men for money.
