Last week I saw an otherwise-empty paper aisle in a store that had 3 4-packs of cheap single-ply Scott toilet paper no one would buy. I got them and gave them to each apartment I rent as "emergency" backups so they won't be tempted to flush anything else that might clog drain pipes.

A huge part of the problem is that we have not shifted to home grocery delivery before now. I order a lot of staples from Amazon but have avoided InstaCart etc as I like the daily grocery visit. As contagious as CV is, visits to the grocery store are swims in the virus pool. The deep end of the virus pool.

Thanks. I was lucky to choose who to quarantine with.

update: I went back to my Trader Joes (block away) 3 hours later after the mob left and the store was fully stocked including a shelf of fine quality toilet paper that no one of the 40 people in the store were interested in ! And then I stopped in my Ace Hardware and it had a rack of 100 masks with valves for $8.99 no one was buying. It's completely random.

That's very encouraging that only 10% tested are positive in Nevada. It provides hope that percentage may hold or start to go down with mass testing, at least in Nevada, until we get like Wuhan where no new cases are happening.

Outsider and Westworld.

OMFG, nothing will be more unbearable than Rand Paul with the virus. We now get the right-wing spin on the virus with a celebrity. Blame it on the Federal Reserve !

It's mostly random. This morning Trader Joes had capacity in the store at 9am and had a line down the sidewalk waiting to be let in as people went out. Safeway 3 blocks away was fully stocked and almost no customers. The Whole Foods by me has always been over 50% Instacart and random. Grocery stores are possibly the most dangerous contagion places most of us go now. I need to start mostly delivery.

From what I understand the infection will hit 75% too soon with no social controls and the idea is to distance the 75% infection out to July so as to not overwhelm hospitals etc too soon and bide a couple more months for drugs, ventilators etc. Angela Merkel says 60%-70% of Germans will be infected. But whether it's to not ever get or to postpone getting the methods are the same. It's the easy contagion factor of Coronavirus that is so damn scary. Also, since contagion eventually is probable, boosting your immunity is incredibly important. Here's a short NYT snippet on the subject. Relax, don't stress.: Can I Boost My Immune System? Fears about coronavirus have prompted online searches and plenty of misinformation about how to strengthen the immune system. Here’s what works — and what doesn’t. By Tara Parker-Pope The immune system is a complex network of cells, organs and tissues that work in tandem to protect the body from infection. While genetics play a role, we know from studies of twins that the strength of our immune system is largely determined by nonheritable factors. The germs we are exposed to over a lifetime, as well as lifestyle factors like stress, sleep, diet and exercise all play a role in the strength of our immune response. The bottom line is that there is no magic pill or a specific food guaranteed to bolster your immune system and protect you from the new coronavirus. But there are real ways you can take care of yourself and give your immune system the best chance to do its job against a respiratory illness. Lower your stress. Worries about the coronavirus, the stock market and the general disruption of life have added to our stress levels, but we know that stress also can make you more susceptible to respiratory illness. In a series of remarkable studies over 20 years at Carnegie Mellon University, volunteers were exposed to the cold virus (using nose drops) and then quarantined for observation. The researchers found that people who reported less stress in their lives were less likely to develop cold symptoms. Another series of studies at Ohio State University found that marital conflict is especially taxing to the immune system. In a series of studies, the researchers inflicted small wounds on the arms of volunteers, and then asked couples to discuss topics both pleasant and stressful. When couples argued, their wounds took, on average, a full day longer to heal than after the sessions in which the couples discussed something pleasant. Among couples who exhibited especially high levels of hostility, the wounds took two days longer to heal. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/10/well/live/can-i-boost-my-immune-system.html?action=click&module=Spotlight&pgtype=Homepage

Read a couple articles on how many people are using the foster-pet services to get a roommate at least for the duration. Foster pet services usually save from high-kill pounds and they have both dogs and cats. Also many shelters are reducing staff and need fosters for the duration. Great idea for temporary company. https://wjla.com/news/local/animal-rescue-foster-families-covid-19-pandemic?fbclid=IwAR0xWX191mH-ScsrzmZmi0wV5cpOqsKjx99UbatxIPFJ_8aqNRYjnp0ePDU

Yes Trader Joe's has the best fresh giant asparagus any of us have seen for $1.29. Perfect for grilling with cheese and garlic. One of the nice things that's happened.

But in Brazil the sauna cover fee and the cubicle rental often exceed $40 diminishing the bargain rate of the guy. Especially if you're only having sex once a visit. For most Europeans and many in the US it's not worth the airfare. Plus the top Brazilians often go to the US and Europe. They're often half the guys at Thermas and Patagonya. It's all closed now anyway.

Cost-wise Barcelona and Columbia top Brazil because of the added room costs and entry fees and travel cost to Brazil. Many better Brazilians go to Barcelona. I think they're all closed now anyway.

Airplanes are pretty antiseptic these days. Amazing how scrubbed down seats etc are with strong anti-virals and then there's the air-purifier system. Those flight attendants who work in them make damn sure. OTOH grocery stores and voting lines are the most contagious spots probably. And if you're unlucky enough to have to use subways or buses.....

In DC they used to have live nude shows in rooms with windows and booths. The booths were not very sanity. Cars are better.

There are reports on the frequent traveler blogs that they will extend them . Best experiences seem to be contacting them on social media. They are very slow communicating right now.

More lifesaving ventilators are available. Hospitals can’t afford them. Hospitals are holding back from ordering more medical ventilators because of the high cost for what may be only a short-term spike in demand from the coronavirus epidemic, supply chain experts and health researchers say, intensifying an anticipated shortage of lifesaving equipment for patients who become critically ill. https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/03/18/ventilator-shortage-hospital-icu-coronavirus/?fbclid=IwAR25rUlO03t0Ty7emF02CCMwfFyOJ6Cq49vPKHHn22JE1EhDdhSiCmBo_vo

Are they importable from China? More than anything it will decide whether most live or die.

Trader Joes is concentrating on restocking food, not wine.
