Oh my! For you to have that painful recollection follow you through your adult life, you must have gotten your foreskin cut much later than you should have. When it's done right after birth, I don't believe it should be such a traumatic experience. However, it is a cultural thing and is usually a tradition as to whether or not to cut.

I don't think I've ever heard of someone flying across the globe just to accrue miles with an airline or flying to Belgium to purchase chocolates! I can understand why you drifted apart. But as we get older especially, it's nice to have a friend to do and share things with. I would take it for what it's worth, enjoy some meet ups together without any expectations. You've reconnected with an old friend and maybe for a good reason. I think you were very kind to have treated him to dinner and sharing that nice bottle of wine. CHEERS!
