Saw her in Palm Desert a few years ago. Was sold out show. Wonderful. I wish she toured more often. I see she'll be at the Ordway in Saint Paul in November. That ought to be a great venue for her.

She's the kind of performer Johnny Carson would have on again and again. I love her.

Henry Wessel (born in New Jersey in 1942) is an American photographer noted for his descriptive yet poetic photographs of the human environment. He is the recipient of two Guggenheim Fellowships and three National Endowment for the Arts grants.

Henry Wessel on photography: "It has to do with the discipline of being actively receptive. At the core of this receptivity is a process that might be called soft eyes. It is a physical sensation. You are not looking for something. You are open, receptive. At some point you are in front of something that you cannot ignore."

When used as an adjective, "chill."

LOL. Coming out of the gym when last in NYC, I noticed that the front window of Dough's Flatiron location says they sell "artisanal doughnuts." (Snapped a pic to post here but Photobucket now wants $500/year to host my pics.)

Artisanal bread, artisanal cheese, artisanal cocktail, and so on. Meaning what? It doesn't suck??

His head literally exploded after he tasted my artisanal, hand crafted cocktail, with my secret, creamy ingredient!

Using preventative when preventive was the original adjective drives me nuts.

Are you taking any preventative measures to avoid performance gaps?
We say corrective action, and so we also say preventive action, not preventative action. But with increased usage, preventative has becoming an accepted adjective.

Hope you are all having a proactive weekend. I brought work home. Trying to figure out how my team will get to the next level.

I understand Aciman loved the written screenplay. Aciman is remarkable. I read Enigma Variations afterwards, and just picked up his Harvard Square. Supposed to be his best yet.

So glad for this post. I never heard about the book which I'm reading right now. Very, very good. I look forward to the movie. Last night I watched the film I Am Love with the always excellent Tilda Swindon on Netflix by the same director. A really unusual and interesting film. Thanks for letting me know about this also.

I enjoy Rufus singing Judy Garland, or any other songs.

But, I saw/heard Garland sing "Come Rain or Come Shine" in Boston a few months after the Carnegie Hall concert in 1961.

Harold Arlen was not in the audience in Boston, but the song was my most memorable few minute of Judy Garland in person.

People love to talk about the peach (who can blame them) but I never hear anyone admit what huge symbol it was, what Oliver was representing to Elio by doing that. Anyway, I'll probably read the book again before November.

Yes, I agree. The book is wonderful. I read it and it gave me all kinds of feels...
As for the genius who hired Mr. Stevens? I would assume it was Luca Guadagnino? I have not seen any of his previous films, but I remember a well-regarded "I Am Love," starring the great Tilda Swinton. That, I want to see as well...

Call Me By Your Name is an award winning book, which I recommend reading before seeing the movie, just because it is so good. Not necessary of course.
