The world is filled with tempting shortcuts, that are relatively low-risk if planned/managed/executed cautiously and wisely. Prisons are filled with convicted criminals who tried low risk crimes. Many addicts started out with safe and sane substance-use. How often do we see discussions on these forums claiming that tops are at less risk than bottoms, and unprotected oral sex is very low risk for transmitting some STDs. But disease is still transmitted. Independence Day fireworks present little hazard if used carefully, but we could fill dumpsters with blown-off fingers. Safe use, addictive tendencies, occassional carelessness, and unknown biological factors, all play a role. One of my first escorts, a beautiful young guy from Chicago, used steroids sparingly and carefully. The effects were drool-inducing. He ended sick and broke with both kidney & liver damage. Interesting study described. Except, its a study of people who post pictures on dating sites. Thats not exactly a representative sample. Do gay men on dating sites groom themselves differently? And are there some features for gay men openly acknowledging their orientation in hopes of attracting another gay man that trigger facial recognition? Facial recognition and profiling make for fascinating ethical debate.

Perhaps I'm too sensitized to the topic. While I've never dealt with exactly this... I've had to discipline a physician for fucking around with a young female employee. She was 100% willing. It was still harassment. A physician in a patient-exam is considered to be in an authoritative role. A male patient could whip out a hardon, or a female expose her tits, with a "grab me" sign attached.... if the doctor responds, the doctor risks his license. Part of my initial training in this topic was a case study about about an anesthesiologist who stood at the head of the surgical table, lowered his scrubs,and put his penis in the unconscious patient's mouth. Often. I know its nowhere near the situation described by the OP. And in the case study, the astonishing thing wasnt the perverted action of the doctor.... it was that it happened multiple times, over a lengthy period of time, and everyone else in the OR just shrugged it off.... until finally, a nurse blew the whistle on him. Wayyyy more extreme and dramatic than the OP.... I'm trained for zero-tolerance.

I knew someone would say that. And yes, if a professional in a position of authority is focused and has their head in the right space, its preventable - the possibility wont even occur. If you were focused on an important task... something that truly required your full attention.... if I held up a photo of the man of your dreams, naked, .... would you involuntarily get hard, or just ignore the distraction?

I guess I'm a prude... or have a stick up my butt. Maybe its because I work in healthcare. My reaction is "thats wrong, stupid, and a potential career-ender." When I ran a women's health clinic, there was an incident, and during a physician peer review, one doctor turned to another and said "remember what they told us in med school: the simple definition of assault is 'unwanted touching.'" If a doctor pressed his hardon against me in an exam room, I'd probably glare at him and ask "are you nuts?!?!"
