I don't know. I never research those things because I never believe drug companies are really going to do anything like that except for people who can afford to not need them. Why not just follow her lead to get some for free? And I don't know if Wegovy works for diabetes and/or can be taken with other diabetes medication. I think the answer is no on both.

When it comes to dreams, some might fantasize about having a makeover montage, or being upgraded to first-class, but me? I simply daydream about being able to eat gluten without getting sick. So it was surprising that this dream somewhat came true on my last few trips across the pond where I found I could suddenly tolerate fresh Italian pastas, Japanese fried chicken, and crusty French baguettes without my usual stomach pain. I related my experiences to my other gluten-intolerant friends (plus a few lactose-intolerant for good measure), and they repeated having had similar experiences. What was this witchcraft, I wondered? I decided to consult a few dietitians to investigate why there seems to be a magical spell cast over my digestive tract when I'm prancing around outside of the States. Turns out it's definitely not magic, but there are plenty of reasons why one can more easily digest certain foods when traveling: The Wheat Is Completely Different Yes, the wheat used in the U.S. and the varieties grown in Europe and elsewhere are actually different breeds altogether, according to dietitian Melanie Murphy Richter, MS, RDN. They're more cousins than sisters—hard red winter wheat is the predominant variety of wheat grown in the U.S., while European countries rely mostly on soft red winter wheat and durum wheat. Unsurprisingly, hard red winter wheat has a higher gluten content than soft winter wheat, making it likely harder to digest for all us gluten-sensitives out there. More Fermentation, Fewer (Tummy) Problems Fermentation has long been praised for its benefits on gut health, and you're more likely to encounter these benefits when leaving the U.S. for more fermentation-savvy countries in Europe and Asia, who have long-held fermentation traditions spanning many generations. That same fermentation can often allow for more ingredients to be tolerable, as well. For example, Richter tells Delish that practices such as sourdough fermentation are more common abroad, which can help break down gluten and improve digestibility. The varieties of dairy products available abroad are often more easy to tolerate for lactose-intolerant folks, too. Dietitian Amy Goldsmith, RDN, LDN, says that many European countries have a bigger focus on fermented dairy products, which have positive effects on the gut microbiome while also naturally containing less lactose (as is the case for Parmigiano Reggiano). On top of that, many of the more popular cheeses in Europe are actually lactose-free cheeses, as they're often made from goat and sheep milk, like Spanish Manchego, Italian Pecorino, as well as all the many French chèvres. The U.S. Isn't As Strict About Food Regulations As you might expect, food regulations are much more strict in countries with well-protected heirloom-variety foods (as is the case in countries such as France and Italy), while Europe predominantly bans ingredients like artificial dyes, pesticides, certain preservatives, and additives that are still allowed in the U.S. "For example, growth hormones in dairy or bromates in bread flour are prohibited in Europe," says Murphy Richter, noting that bromates (namely potassium bromate), which are commonly found in American bread products, have been found to cause digestion issues (like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) and along with more chronic conditions such as cancer. Less Loafing Around While you might be enjoying a loaf of Italian bread, you also are likely doing more than just loafing around on vacation as you take in sights and are generally more active. "Movement is such a simple but underrated tool for digestion," says Murphy Richter, who adds that being active increases blood flow to digestive organs, helps regulate blood sugar, and can help reduce inflammation, all of which helps support our gut and can explain why some foods might be easier to tolerate in other countries. "Plus, when we’re traveling, we tend to be more relaxed, enjoy meals at a slower pace, and walk more—this all supports better digestion, adds Murphy Richter. "It’s a good reminder that digestion isn’t just physical—our mindset plays a big role too." And if you do still have stomach issues? There are plenty of ways to feel better and keep enjoying your vacation... Feeling Post-Baguette Regret? If your stomach is not happy after that big bowl of carbonara, there are tools and techniques you can keep handy, according to the dietitians, such as bags of ginger and peppermint tea, peppermint supplements (like IBGard), food enzymes (like Fodzyme), and being sure to stay hydrated. On the bright side, there are often so many more substitutions available abroad which means you can still have all your favorites, sans gluten— I once had a gluten-free Big Mac at a Portuguese McDonald's of all places. it's the end of the year... time to celebrate the best quotes of 2024!

My first Ozempic dose was $130 for 14 weeks but then I hit the (ironically named) Medicare donut hole and a refill would've been $755. My endocrinologist had one sample for me and my brother in law had an extra half a pen after he was switched to a higher dose but after they ran out I had to switch to diabetes medication with no copay or appetite suppressing qualities. I didn't gain anything back for 7 months but after I started to the doctor found FOUR samples (3 in Sept, one in Dec) that I'm stretching out a bit by taking the shots every 9 days instead of every 7 since Nov. It's okay for me to do that because all of my #s are in very good shape.

What a pair of milquetoasts! You'd both be crapping your pants if you ever had the cojones to explore this south pole: It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas—on Mars. The otherworldly landscape is, for the most part, a distinct red hue, but recent images reveal unusual frosty features that have turned the Red Planet’s south pole white. The European Space Agency’s (ESA) Mars Express orbiter captured stunning views of a winter wonderland on Mars, but this isn’t your regular snowfall. Instead, Mars’ south pole is covered in layers of carbon dioxide ice and dust, according to ESA, creating the mesmerizing scene across the planet’s southerly region of Australe Scopuli. The winter season on Mars sees temperatures drop as low as -190 degrees Fahrenheit (-123 degrees Celsius). As cold as it is, Mars doesn’t get more than a few feet of snow. Unlike snow on Earth, Martian snow comes in two flavors: water ice and carbon dioxide, or dry ice. On the one hand, water ice turns to gas before it touches the surface, due to the planet’s thin atmosphere; dry ice, on the other hand, does reach the surface. Although it looks like a winter wonderland, the images were taken in June, when it was almost summertime at Mars’ south pole. According to an ESA release, the warming rays of the Sun are causing the seasonal ice layers to begin their retreat, evident on the left side of the image where dark patches are swooping in. As sunlight shines through the dry ice’s translucent upper layers, the ice at the bottom sublimates—turns to vapor directly from a solid state—and creates pockets of trapped gas. The pressure builds up until the layers of ice at the top start to crack, sending jets of gas bursting through the surface, carrying dark dust from below. After bursting its way through, the dust then falls back onto the surface in a fan-shaped pattern guided by the wind. A view across icy hills in the Australe Scopuli region near the south pole of Mars. In the above view of Australe Scopuli’s seasonal ice caps, layers of ice and dust overlap in a swirling dream across the Martian surface. The image was captured by the High Resolution Stereo Camera on Mars Express, allowing the topography of the landscape to be derived from the digital terrain model. The image offers a closer look at the fan-shaped pattern created by the bursts of dust, creating boundaries between the layered deposits. ESA’s Mars Express launched in 2003, and has provided breathtaking images of the Martian landscape for more than 20 years. The spacecraft compiled the most complete map of the chemical composition of Mars’ atmosphere, observed the planet’s moons Phobos and Deimos in detail, and traced the history of water across Mars, according to ESA. The mission also carried a lander named Beagle 2, but it was lost on arrival and never conducted scientific operations on the Red (or, apparently, white) Planet. https://gizmodo.com/mars-orbiter-captures-a-winter-wonderland-on-summertime-mars-2000540892

I have a bunch of greeting cards with gay porn stars from back then that I collected that have been sitting in a trunk in a closet for a couple of decades. I sent one with a self-addressed, stamped manila envelope to Jeff Stryker, explaining we were born on the same day, and asked him to sign it and send it back (along with a recently- worn jockstrap). He sent back the signed card.

If you watch it on half speed, you get to ogle him that much longer and you can still understand what everybody is saying... they just all sound developmentally disabled. You can always turn on the captions to help with that or if you just can't make out some of the words because of their accents. The captions are pretty accurate throughout and you can figure out the few mistakes that are made. -

Who has money to throw away on something that is thrown away 2 seconds after it fulfills its purpose and just creates that much more crap to clean up? I don't even bother with wrapping paper anymore- I just keep some of the smaller boxes I get from Amazon or other places during the year and then kill 2 birds with one stone by putting presents in them so I get them out of the house and I don't even tape them closed anymore- I just do the thing where you fold the cover flaps in the way that keeps them closed. The older, poorer, and less mobile I have gotten over the years has made me realize that Christmas should be as cheap and effortless as possible. Nobody really gives a damn about cards and presents, and if they do, I don't give a damn about them. JOY TO THE WORLD!
