  3. An embattled Bedford-Stuyvesant dominatrix fled her BDSM-hating neighbor to another Brooklyn dungeon on Saturday with help from some big-hearted movers, who assisted the cash-strapped kinkster transport her bondage gear free of charge. It wasn’t the first BDSM dungeon the movers have relocated, but it was one of the nicest, according to the owner. “I’ve been moving for 12 years now in the city, and it happens here and there,” said Dan Hedebrand, co-owner of Lift NYC Movers. “This one had some of the nicer stuff we’ve seen.” Hyderbrand decided to donate his company’s time and moving expertise to sex educator Charlotte Taillor after reading news coverage about her trouble with kink-shaming neighbor Laurie Miller, who successfully perpetrated a one-woman harassment campaign in an effort to force the dominatrix off her Quincy Street block. During the move, Hyderbrand and his crew transported a small torture-chamber’s worth of custom-made bondage furniture, including a cross affixed with numerous attachments, a throne fit for a goddess, and a bed that probably wasn’t made for a good night’s rest in mind, the mover said. “It was all in leather,” said Hyderbrand. “It’s probably not too comfortable to sleep on, but then it’s probably not for sleeping.” Taillor, who operates an adults-only classroom called The Taillor Collective, moved from a Crown Heights dungeon to the residential Quincy Street block in December, where she offered paid workshops catering to the erotically intrepid, including lessons on bondage and paddling, cross-dressing events for guys, dirty drawing workshops featuring tied-up models, and pegging classes for women — a class which attracts an unlikely amount of Jersey house wives, the kink maven claimed. But the dominatrix announced her plan to flee Bedford-Stuyvesant after Miller discovered that the men and women filing into her neighbor’s apartment were exploring the less orthodox side of human sexuality, and the Quincy Street resident could be heard screaming at neighbors regarding their sexual proclivities from the street outside, as Taillor and her colleagues held class from within. Taillor — who asked that the specific location of her new dungeon be withheld to protect her clients — said having to relocate so soon after moving to the Bedford-Stuyvesant location put a serious strain on her finances, and said Heyderbrand’s generous offer to help free of charge came as huge relief. “They were amazing,” Taillor said. “I’m going to be forever grateful.”
  4. It’s going to take a lot more than this to shed that “Whole Paycheck” nickname. Amazon’s price cuts last week at Whole Foods — which claimed discounts of 20 percent on hundreds of items — amounted to a measly drop of 1 percent in the total bill for a typical shopping trip, according to a Wall Street analyst’s report on Monday. That’s despite Amazon advertising a slew of deals for its Prime members, including slashing the price for a pound for organic strawberries to $2.99 from $5.99; charging $3.99 for a pound of heirloom tomatoes instead of $4.99; and cutting the price of a pound of Pacific cod fillets to $9.99 from $12.99. The big catch: Amazon has meanwhile hiked prices on a slew of other groceries, mostly beverages, dairy staples and packaged goods. A 16-ounce bottle of Honest Tea, for example, was $1.49 after last week’s price hikes — up 24 cents from what Whole Foods was charging last August, according to the study released Monday by Chuck Grom, an analyst at Gordon Haskett. A single Clif Bar, meanwhile, now costs $1.35 — or 40 cents more than in August. A 32-ounce tub of Stonyfield organic yogurt now costs $4.29, 30 cents more than in August, when Grom checked prices last. The result? Overall price cuts that are “hardly heroic,” according to Grom. A shopping cart of 106 key grocery items at a Whole Foods location in Princeton, NJ, now costs $396.88 — just $3.81 lower than it did before. To make matters worse, industry experts say that while Amazon has announced price cuts in the past — last week’s was the most extensive, with hundreds of items repriced — the discounts are never permanent. In fact, many items drift back up to their previous cost or even higher, according to Brittain Ladd, a digital consultant and former Amazon executive. “There is no corporate policy stating that Whole Foods will keep its prices low on these items,” Ladd told The Post. “This is a temporary reduction” that is meant to lure more Amazon Prime customers into the stores, Ladd added. Last week, nearly 500 Whole Foods stores got plastered overnight with dozens of signs touting the reductions. “Hey Prime members, new lower prices and more deals too. (You’re gonna need a bigger cart.),” declared one banner hung at the top of the escalator at the Bryant Park Whole Foods in Midtown Manhattan. The aggressive push is likely a response to softening sales at Whole Foods, which Amazon scooped up in August 2017 for $13.7 billion, according to Grom. “Our data shows that their sales have been softer over the last six to nine months,” Grom said. A Whole Foods spokeswoman didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment on Monday.
  5. My favorite supermarket recently went 24 hours. I did my first 1AM shop there a few hours ago. It was as heavenly an experience as I’d imagined it would be… no traffic to or fro, practically nobody in the store and nobody at the register when I was ready to check out, and there was a surprise: One of the reasons it’s my favorite store is that it has 5 handicapped carts (it’s a big store), and I’ve only seen one other supermarket have as many as 3. Well… at 1AM I was the only cripple in the place, so I had my pick of carts… which now number SEVEN! New Hyde Park must be the handicapped disabled capital of NY. This is what I looked like motoring around the store:
  6. A very smart journalist was locked out of his iPad for nearly a half-century by his 3-year-old kid. “Uh, this looks fake but, alas, it’s our iPad today after 3-year-old tried (repeatedly) to unlock. Ideas?” New Yorker magazine staff writer Evan Osnos posted on Twitter over the weekend, along with a plea for “Ideas?” That caption accompanied a screenshot of his iPad, which showed an onscreen notice that the personal tablet had been disabled for security reasons. The prompt advised Osnos to try again in 25,536,442 minutes. That comes out to 48.59 years, which would indicate Osnos may try and access his iPad again by late 2067. “We’re still locked out,” Osnos told the Daily News by email Monday. “It’s down a few hundred minutes from yesterday, but it looks like we’ve still got 25 million minutes to go. On Twitter, people have suggested various fixes but the consensus seems to be that we’re using an old operating system that won’t let us restart fresh from iTunes. When I get home from work tonight, I’ll give it a try and see what happens.” Canada’s CTV News asked a Toronto-based computer fixer how to solve Osnos’ problem. According to Tom Wolanczyk of Fixt Wireless Repair, this sort of lock-out issue with Apple products happens from time to time. He said that the computer giant’s security systems ask users trying to log in with the wrong password to try again in a given amount of time that increases exponentially with each failed attempt. He recommends going through Apple’s website to completely reset the unit, which could erase data stored in the unit. Osnos won a National Book Prize and was in the running for a Pulitzer for his 2014 book “Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth and Faith in the New China.”
  7. The last place you’d expect to find rowdy hecklers would be at an Engelbert Humperdinck gig. But Friday night, an elderly man caused a scene at The Humper’s gig at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ, and riled up the audience so much he got the ol’ Hump Bump, getting thrown out of the theater. English sideburned lothario Humperdinck had crooned just a couple of songs from his set, when — according to a witness — “an elderly man in the front row interrupted him, complaining [that] a teleprompter at the foot of the stage blocked his view.” Humperdinck engaged the heckler in some friendly banter, but then “noticing his age and silver hair, dubbed him ‘Bernie Sanders.’ Pretty soon, the audience took up the cry, shouting, ‘Bernie . . . Bernie!” The patron was not amused, and continued to heckle Humperdinck, who, at 82, is no spring chicken himself. Security guards started circling the enraged Bernie clone, who refused to be still. “Now the audience started to get mad. They started yelling, ‘Throw him out!’ And that’s what they did.” We’re told the guards escorted the wizened whiner out of the auditorium and Humperdunked him right out on the sidewalk. The episode held up The Humper for 10 minutes before he resumed crooning songs, including “Release Me,” to the sold-out crowd. We’re told the blowup didn’t lose Humperdink any fans. “The show was sold out, and the audience gave the star rousing, standing ovations at the end [of the performance].”

  11. The tale of a once-standoffish elderly rescue dog who struck up an unlikely friendship with a treats-hauling mailman before she died has gone viral, thanks to a tear-jerking tweet. Gretchen, a sweet-but-shy German shepherd, and her Texas owner, Chris Cimino, left the mailman who visited her every day on his route a heartbreaking goodbye letter. “Gretchen passed away yesterday. She asked me to ask you if you would share her treats that she never got to finish with the other dogs on your route,” Cimino wrote in a letter with a bag of bone-shaped treats stapled to it. “She always enjoyed seeing you come to the door and was always happy to get a snack from you.” The note, which was posted on Twitter by mailman Fernando Barboza’s daughter, had garnered more than 874,000 likes by Monday. Cimino adopted Gretchen in 2013, back when she was skittish and nervous around people, he told ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “Her mistrust of just about everyone outside of the family was pretty evident,” Cimino said. But she eventually warmed up to Barboza, who brought her treats every day. “It started off slow,” Cimino said of their friendship. “But he was pretty persistent — he would call her name and she started looking forward to it.” “Even when he didn’t have any packages to deliver to the door he would drive by and say, ‘Hey, Gretchen,'” Cimino said. Eventually, the dog began waiting by the door for him. “She started looking forward to him coming by,” Cimino said. “He would deliver a package to the old man across the street and she would get really jealous.” The pooch passed away after a long battle with neuropathic disease last week, according to GMA. Cimino now hopes his story will inspire animal lovers to adopt old dogs. “You never know when you’re going to find that one-in-a-lifetime friendship,” he said. BTW... the name Chris Cimino is known to NYers for something else...
  12. Even if you live in a high-rise in the middle of Manhattan, you can still grow your own food. A start-up company called 'Urban Leaf' is selling edible plants that will flourish in empty wine bottles. Rob Elliott, PhD and Nate Littlewood are the two entrepreneurs behind the behind the venture. They are making New York greener one bottle at a time. Just take an empty wine or beer bottle, rinse it out, fill it with tap water and then drop one of the Urban Leaf cartridges into the bottle. Mother nature does the rest, providing edible flowers and munchable greens. Instead of farm-to-table, Urban Leaf is helping city dwellers eat food that is traveling from windowsill-to-mouth. The company was founded and nurtured in the Columbia University startup lab in downtown Manhattan. The Urban Leaf kits start at $22 and can be purchased online at www.geturbanleaf.com. (They even sell grow lights in case your apartment doesn't get enough light.) http://www.fox5ny.com/good-day/start-up-grows-gardens-in-empty-bottles
