  1. To avoid the risk of being dinged for going off-topic, I'll tell you in a private message.
  2. If you're ever near the ShopRite in New Hyde Park, NY, go in and groove to the music. It's usually a great selection of 70s & 80s stuff. I'm sure I'm quite the sight, zipping around in a handicapped cart, singing along off-key to songs that were hits probably before most of the employees were born.
  3. Yes, he was always Charles, but the original CBS family (CIC Classic, to uber-fans) was replaced by an inferior family (CIC Lite) when the series was dropped by CBS then continued with a syndicated version.
  4. Apparently, like @BuffaloKyle , @samhexum doesn't know didley squat, either. PITCHERS IP H R ER BB K HR PC-ST ERA S. Ohtani 5.0 1 1 1 1 6 0 69-46 2.33 .
  5. I get the two mixed up all the time. I loved Jake in CHARLES IN CHARGE (with the original CBS cast, as opposed to the syndicated family, of course).
  6. Since the date the Mets had a 10 1/2 game lead, they've played at an approximetely 95 win pace. The Braves have played at the same pace LA did for the whole season (~114 wins). Met fans are annoyed and pissed, but their team didn't blow it, the Braves WON it. Now watch, the Marlins will sweep the Braves & the Mets will sweep the Nats and win the division.
  7. Kim Kardashian agreed to pay a $1.26 million fine to the Securities and Exchange Commission to settle civil charges after the reality TV star touted a crypto asset, EthereumMax, on Instagram. The SEC charged Kardashian with failure to disclose that she was paid $250,000 to publish her Instagram post. In addition to paying the fine, she agreed to cooperate with the SEC’s ongoing investigation. “This case is a reminder that, when celebrities or influencers endorse investment opportunities, including crypto asset securities, it doesn’t mean that those investment products are right for all investors,” said SEC Chair Gary Gensler. “We encourage investors to consider an investment’s potential risks and opportunities in light of their own financial goals.” “Ms. Kardashian is pleased to have resolved this matter with the SEC,” said a statement from her attorneys. “Kardashian fully cooperated with the SEC from the very beginning and she remains willing to do whatever she can to assist the SEC in this matter. She wanted to get this matter behind her to avoid a protracted dispute. The agreement she reached with the SEC allows her to do that so that she can move forward with her many different business pursuits.” The SEC found that Kardashian violated the anti-touting provision of the federal securities laws. Kardashian agreed to the order without admitting or denying the SEC’s findings. The settlement includes a $1 million fine and forfeiting the $250,000 payment she received, plus interest. Gensler tweeted that “any celebrity or influencer’s incentives aren’t necessarily aligned with yours.” He said the investing public shouldn’t confuse the skills of celebrities “with the very different skills needed to offer appropriate investment advice.” In the June 13, 2021 Instagram post Kardashian wrote, “Are you guys into crypto? This is not financial advice but sharing what my friends told me about the ethereum max token!” She added different hashtags, including #ad, along with #emax and #disrupthistory, among others. The SEC said she had 225 million Instagram followers at the time of the post. The #ad is not sufficient to comply with SEC laws in regards to touting investments, said Gensler in an interview on CNBC Monday. “If you’re advertising perfuming, or you’re advertising vacation homes or anything else on the internet, there are various laws related to that. But these are the securities laws,” he said. Kardashian’s net worth is estimated at $1.8 billion according to Forbes. So a $1.26 million fine is the equivalent of a fine of less than $100 for a typical US family, which has a net worth of about $122,000 according to the most recent estimate of the Federal Reserve. https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/03/investing/kim-kardashian-sec-fine What a shock that a celebrity would tout something for reasons other than altruism. I bet Kim & her kids will have to eat store-brand mac & cheese for every meal from now on to survive this ginormous hit to her wealth.

  9. DEAR ABBY: My husband and I attended a party at the home of one of my co-workers. There were about 15 guests. The problem was the homeowner’s pets — two dogs that live inside. The dogs were allowed to roam freely during the party. They barked each time a guest knocked or rang the doorbell and jumped on each person who entered. They hovered at people’s feet waiting for food to drop or to be given to them. It felt like we were expected to pet the animals and interact with them whether we wanted to or not. The homeowner made no attempt to control the dogs or keep them away from any of the guests. I don’t dislike animals, but I don’t want other people’s pets jumping on my clothes, trying to lick me or getting close to my food. Two large wire kennels were visible along a front hallway, which I assume are used during the day while the homeowner is away at work. What would have been the polite way to ask my co-worker to put the dogs in their kennels or out in the garage while the guests were eating? — LIKES PETS, BUT … DEAR LIKES: To an animal lover, a pet is a member of the family. Your co-worker obviously saw nothing wrong with his/her dogs mingling with the guests. There is no polite way to ask a host to put a family member in the garage during a party. Telling your co-worker that you found the pets’ behavior disruptive may solve your problem, because he/she will probably omit you from future guest lists. How do you know those kennels were for the dogs? Your co-worker may use them for an entirely different type of party.
  10. He should definitely pay for what he did, but it seems like there might have been some degree of mental illness involved, so I have a bit of sympathy. Should he really have to spend a lifetime as a pinata for any inmate that wants to take a whack at him with his big stick? Maybe he'll met his Chris Keller and find love. Although that didn't end so well...

  12. Ryan Grantham fears his baby face and diminutive figure will make him a target of abuse from other prisoners, his lawyer said Wednesday. Grantham, 24, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for fatally shooting his mother Barbara Waite and was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 14 years. The Canadian actor is likely to be placed in a maximum-security prison with other murderers — where he fears for his safety, his lawyer Chris Johnson told Fox News. “When people plead guilty to a crime, it doesn’t mean they’re saying, ‘Sure, I’ll be raped and abused by other prisoners.’ That’s not part of the deal,” Johnson told the outlet. The Vancouver-based criminal defense lawyer said his client could be at higher risk in a maximum-safety prison — an issue that was first raised by the judge who presided over Grantham’s case, he said. Justice Kathleen Ker requested that corrections officials jail Grantham inside a medium-security prison, rather than a maximum-security prison where most convicted murders are sent, according to Johnson. The former child actor, also known for his role in the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” film, “looks like a 17-year-old,” his lawyer said. Grantham is just 5’2″ tall and weighs about 100 pounds, he added. “My biggest concern is that he will be preyed upon by other prisoners and perhaps abused by them,” Johnson said. “We send people to prison to be both punished and rehabilitated. And so I’m hopeful that the latter can take place. We don’t send people to prison so they can be punished by other prisoners.” Correction officials in Canada have jurisdiction over where a person convicted of a crime and sentenced to prison serves time, rather than the court, according to the lawyer. Johnson told Fox News he plans to send a request to the director of prisons in order to request Grantham be sent to a lower security prison this week. The actor-turned-killer pleaded guilty to shooting his 64-year-old mother in the back of the head while she played piano in the family home on March 31, 2020. Grantham also confessed that he had planned to assassinate Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The day after killing his mother, he loaded a car up with three guns, 12 Molotov cocktails, and ammunition and began driving to Trudeau’s home. He dropped that plan after a few hours and considered shooting up Simon Fraser University, where he was a student — but ultimately drove to a police station and turned himself in for his mother’s murder. https://nypost.com/2022/09/29/ex-riverdale-actor-ryan-grantham-fears-for-safety-in-prison/ I feel bad for the kid, but he's not the first baby-faced criminal to go to prison. If you can't do the time, don't commit the crime. Or if you can't take the dick, don't do something sick.
  13. And that weatherman has an opening for New York City!
  14. A California woman allegedly ran over a man on purpose in a bid to save a cat she thought he was trying to kill. Maybe she just has an affinity for pussy. Hannah Star Esser, 20, faces murder charges after Luis Anthony Victor, 40, died as a result of his injuries following the Sept. 25 incident. I had a 14 year old friend who was killed by a drunk driver on that date in 1979. According to authorities, Esser got out of her vehicle, yelled a profanity at Victor RUDE! and accused him of trying to run over the cat in Cypress, Calif. Maybe he thought he was committing a mercy killing because the cat would be better off dead than living in Cypress, Calif. Victor tried to speak to Esser, but she got back into her vehicle, made a three-point turn and drove towards Victor. Prosecutors at the Orange County District Attorney’s Office claim Esser then intentionally accelerated directly into Victor so hard he was launched into the air. Kimberly Edds, spokesperson for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, said Esser may have inadvertently framed herself by recording her confrontation with Victor on her cell phone. “The circumstances leading up to the confrontation are still under investigation,” Edds told The Post. If convicted, Esser faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. She is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment on Oct. 13. She remains in Orange County jail in lieu of $1 million bail. It is unclear what happened to the cat at the center of the altercation. It is probably napping or coughing up a hairball somewhere.
  15. I'm sorry, but my teens were during the disco era, and every time I look at the title of this thread, I imagine Ian singing So little time... as he veers away from Florida.
  16. Bill Maher and Van Jones, both of whom I find attractive (though to different degrees), talked about climate change's effect on the insurance industry tonight. Van said you can't get flood insurance at any price in Florida anymore, and Bill said he can't get fire insurance in California. So maybe the insurance companies are wising up. After all, Flo didn't fall for that fake burst pipe ruse from Jon Hamm.
  17. Good first episode. Especially enjoyed Thor & Isaac. One of the ghosts from the Brit version will guest star in an episode in which he plays somebody investigating Pete's death.
  18. So a threesome with Robin Williams and Cara Delevingne would be your ultimate sexual fantasy?
  19. I didn't read the article, but saw a headline this morning about a guy whose $1 million car with only 300 miles on the odometer floated away during the storm. I can't begin to tell you how badly my heart bled for him. I didn't read the article because I was too busy creating a GoFundMe page for him. Oh, well... he'll collect the insurance, buy an even more expensive car, continue to live in Florida, and watch THAT one float away. The circle of life, Florida-style.
  20. Timothée Chalamet is a sexy cannibal in 'Bones and All' skin-crawling trailer Uh… you mean the guy who once co-starred with Armie Hammer? Interesting casting.
  21. I kept hoping that the teens in last season's storyline would be killed (gruesomely), and I thought the first season's 2nd storyline (The Kleinsasser family) was a little weak, but I am enjoying season 3 a lot so far. I like the new sheriff, and all of the little storylines they've set up. The guy in the young couple that have been arguing is a fireman on 9-1-1. What do y'all think?
  22. Even without the signature, wouldn't you have guessed where this letter came from? Dear Abby: My boyfriend and I have been involved for five years. He was sentenced to prison for 31 / 2years. Before he left, we had a really rocky relationship. He cheated on me with multiple women, some of whom he continued on with during his prison sentence. I was pregnant when he went away, so I am now raising our child alone. Fast-forward to the present: He and I are doing extremely well. I see major changes, and we truly believe we can make it work when he’s released at the end of next year. My problem is, I have done some things that are eating away at me. I have had numerous relations while he has been away, all the while letting him think I’m this perfect stay-at-home fiancee and mother. Although none of my affairs have been serious, I’m sure if he finds out, it would be the end of us. I’m scared and confused about what to do. I love him dearly and truly want to spend eternity with him. What should my next step be? — Imperfect, too, in Florida Dear Imperfect: Your next step should be to tell your boyfriend the truth. While you’re at it, tell him you didn’t reveal it before because you weren’t proud of it and didn’t want to worry him while he was locked up. You really have no other option because someone who knows you may let it slip, which would be worse than his hearing from you. sell your story to the Hallmark channel so they can make a movie about this heartwarming situation.
  23. Ohtani got within 4 outs of a no-hitter versus the A's. 8 shutout innings leaves him at 15-8, 2.35 with 213 Ks in 161 IP. 123 H, 43 BB. He needs to pitch one more inning to qualify among the pitching leaders. A no-hitter would've gotten him there. I don't think he'll pitch again this season. .275 29 2B, 6 3B, 34 HR, 94 RBI, 71 BB And SECOND in the MVP race. And the National League's likely MVP (Goldschmidt)? He'd need binoculars to see them from how far behind he'd be. ...3...2...1... until @WilliamM comes to Goldy's defense.
  24. That happened a long time ago. A pint of Haagen Dazs hasn't been a pint for years. I am glad Stop and Shop rainchecks never expire, as I have cashed in a couple for Coke for $10/10, which they haven't been for awhile. I think the rainchecks were from 2015 & 2019. I have a couple more. I have one from CVS for 99 cents apiece for 10. They don't expire, either. That one is from 2019.
