Tilt of Millennium Tower deepens as engineers work to reverse lean It’s the leaning tower of San Francisco. The Bay Area’s Millennium Tower has only continued to tilt further and sink deeper west in spite of architects’ best efforts to steady the ritzy building. The multimillion-dollar-per-unit tower is now leaning more than 29 inches at the corner of Fremont and Mission streets — a slant over half an inch deeper than previously revealed, according to monitoring data reviewed by NBC Bay Area’s Investigative Unit. The half-inch tilt was reportedly gained while engineers dug beneath the sinking condominium earlier this year to support the weight of the tower — which was built atop a former landfill — along its two sides. Fix engineers saw progress in stabilizing the Millenium Tower’s north side along Mission Street after implementing six concrete-filled steel piles along its base in January, but it may have come at a cost to the tower’s west side, the data shows. Rooftop-based monitoring data — which is based on rooftop measurements and foundation-based determinations — indicates the tower shifted nearly an inch to the west compared to its tilt before it was supported on the north side. Engineers in charge claim the data may not be reliable, despite pointing it to as proof of success earlier in the first phase of the project. Project engineer Ron Hamburger told NBC in a statement that the rooftop figures are prone to weather fluctuations and said purely foundation-based data is more reliable. The foundation-based digits also show that the tower is tilting more toward the west than ever, but only by about a quarter of an inch — a lean Hamburger claimed was “negligible.” “We are fully confident that following transfer of the remaining design load to the piles,’’ Hamburger said, adding that “there will be no further … movement of the roof to the west.” Hamburger and his team next plan to secure the foundation to the dozen piles sunk along Fremont Street that will bear the partial weight of the building load. Each pile is 24 inches in diameter and has been driven 270 feet to bedrock and is designed to support 1 million pounds of weight, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Engineers hope to reverse the tilt — which was revealed to residents in 2016 — by the end of the month. https://nypost.com/2023/06/11/san-franciscos-millennium-towers-tilt-deepens-as-engineers-rush-to-reverse-lean/

Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling was hit by a foul ball from Justin Turner in the ninth inning of New York's 3-1 win over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night and continued his commentary. "Ow! Ow! Ow! It really hit me, I didn't know it was coming back that far," Sterling said on the air. Seconds later, he added: "So once again, it'll be a 3-2." Sterling, 84, returned to the booth Tuesday after missing 23 games. He came down with bronchitis after missing two games to attend the college graduation of his triplets.

The NYPD shut down an alleged brothel in Woodside last week following an undercover sting operation where two women in their 60s were arrested for prostitution. Local residents say they have been calling for its closure for some time and that similar establishments are operating freely in the area. Police on June 2 shuttered 63-02 Roosevelt Ave. – a space which up until last year was used as part of an adjacent supermarket called Food Express Supermarket — and served its landlord with a nuisance abatement that could be seen taped to the front door on Thursday, June 8. The operator of Food Express Supermarket told Queens/Sunnyside Post that he hasn’t used the now-shuttered space since last year when the landlord retook control of the building. The NYPD said they shuttered the premises last week after they arrested two women– aged 64 and 60 – and charged them with prostitution after they offered an undercover officer sex in exchange for cash. The women were arrested at 64-01 Roosevelt Ave., an establishment on the next block which appears to be a shuttered bar called Tijuana Bar Restaurant. It is unclear why 63-02 Roosevelt Ave. was shuttered and served a nuisance order given the arrests took place at the bar at 64-01 Roosevelt Ave. — which did not have any notices posted to its exterior and looked closed down. At one stage Thursday a man could be seen leaving 64-01 Roosevelt Ave. and locking the door behind him. Police said the two buildings are connected but did not provide details as to how the establishments are related. Residents and local business owners say that 63-02 Roosevelt Ave. is a known cathouse, and women in scantily dressed clothes are often seen outside trying to entice men inside by first offering them massages. The front doors and windows were covered up from the inside on Thursday. Several passers-by could be seen walking up to the premises Thursday and reading the legal notice. Many families with children also passed by. Many residents said that Roosevelt Avenue has become well known for being a hotbed for prostitution. Some identified another establishment on the next block which they say is also being used as a brothel. Two women of Asian descent dressed in skirts could be seen standing outside the premises Thursday. Jim, a lifelong Woodside resident who didn’t want to provide his full name, said that brothels began popping up in the neighborhood about 15 years ago. He said it has become more prevalent in recent years. “There’s like two or three on every block now,” Jim said. He said it doesn’t bother him whether the practice is made legal or not. “I don’t care either way but either shut them all down or leave them all alone, it’s one or the other,” he said. Jim said he is more concerned about the well-being of the sex workers, noting that he often gives them food when he passes by as they are hungry after being there for long hours. He said the work they do is hazardous and that they should have someone there protecting them. He said there are many drunk individuals on the street late at night on weekends and he fears something untoward will happen to one of them. “It’s dangerous for the girls, what’s to stop someone raping them and not paying them?” “One of these days you’re going to read on the news that one of them was raped or kidnapped, that’s what I worry about.” Cops shut down Woodside brothel during undercover op, residents say neighborhood cathouses are an open secret - Queens Post QUEENSPOST.COM June 9, 2023 By Michael Dorgan The NYPD shut down an alleged brothel in Woodside last week following an...

Michael Kay had it his way with the rare Burger-King matchup when the Yankees took on the White Sox on Thursday afternoon. During the first leg of the teams’ doubleheader, White Sox slugger Jake Burger came up to the plate to face Yankees pitcher Michael King in the top of the seventh inning. By the third pitch of the at-bat, Kay realized what type of shenanigans were unfolding in front of him. “Check the bug up there — Burger against King,” Kay said. “Burger King.” And then the quips started coming. “Well, King wants to have it his way right now.” After Burger grounded out to third base, Kay slipped in, “That was a whopper of an out that King got.”

This is so sad... I just got some new edibles from my dealer and the print on the packaging is so small I'm going to need a magnifying glass to figure out the correct dosage. Thank God I actually have my mom's. Glad I kept it!

Woody Harrelson's 'Cheers' co-stars puked with him 'out of solidarity' after on-set snafu Ted Danson and George Wendt revealed that they once vomited on the “Cheers” set with Woody Harrelson after the vegetarian actor found out he had eaten pork. “[One night] we had catered Chinese food, and Woody found out after about 20 minutes that he was eating pork,” said Wendt, 74, according to IndieWire. “And he decided to go purge. So I told him, ‘Out of solidarity, I will purge with you.’ And Ted said, ‘I’ll purge, too.'” According to Wendt, the trio had a wonderful time puking. “There were only three stalls in the Stage 25 men’s room,” recalled the actor. “And I’ll tell you this: You don’t want to laugh while puking.” LOVELY! JUST... LOVELY!

For the 2nd time in 2 years, a child of a former Red Sox star has done something bad. Last year Dennis Eckersley's daughter abandoned her newborn daughter in the woods, although she called 911 and led the cops to her in time. She has mental issues. Now the son of the late George Scott has killed his 8 year old son and himself. The boy's mother has been missing for 4 years and Scott is considered a POI.

My 3 month supply of Advair, usually $131, just cost me $327 because I'm in the donut hole, the first time I've ever experienced that. I'll have to stretch it to 4+ months. I have 1 1/2 inhalers in the house, so 4 1/2 will have to last 7 months. Maybe I'll see my pulmonologist when the weather cools off and beg him for samples.
