My grandparents in very early decades of the 1900s. 3 of the 4 were from the south and my one grandfather was from the north. If you look on the books listing their entry at Ellis Island you will see that there is an (S) listed next to those from the south and my grandfather from near Bologna has an (N) next to his name. At some point the officials began to differentiate those arriving from the south and those from the north. The Italians from the north were considered culturally superior from those of the south. In fact, in many families if your descendants were mixed (e.g., a mixture of Bolognese and Calabrese) and which part of Italy you were from you would always state you were from the northernmost spot. It would supposedly illustrate how superior you were.

I was hoping that Peterhung would get to visit Palm Springs for the weekend sometime. It looks like he will be engaged for this years festivities. Something tells me that if he happens to come out sometime there would be plenty of mischief to get into. At any rate, reading his site is great and very instructive. Besides informative you get a sense of what a nice guy he is and see that he is very reasonable for his services.

There are many Italians who went to South America, some because in the late 1800s, early 1900s the United States denied entry to Italians (particularly southern Italians who sought entry into the U.S.) Many Italians or their families ended up in Argentine, e.g., the Pope's family. I have cousins that are in Buenos Aires, which gives that city a very Italian flavor. Fernando is not an Italian name, however that is probably not his real name and even if it were there is nothing to say that he could not be Italian.

Last Tango In Halifax, which has been decommissioned since 2016, will be coming back to BBC One in 2020. It will be a four part series and will have many of the same cast members that had made the original cast so great, including Anne Reid, Derek Jacobi, Sarah Lancashire, Nicola Walker, and Josh Bolt. The new series will be written by the original screenwriter who went on to write Gentleman Jack and Happy Valleys. There does not seem to be an exact date that the episode will premiere, although there are trailers to be seen. Also, I believe I originally saw Last Tango on PBS and so I have a feeling that someone must belong to BBC on cable to see this showing of the series. Lucky you. And I do hope he comes for the Weekend. I do know that his dance club performs during a part of the Weekend or at least did. And then he would head on out to see Traveler. Not sure if that will change or not.
