I believe you are confusing privilege and self-esteem. A person may be born into privilege, but self-esteem and self-respect are both built and/or undermined through life.

There are Presidential elections next October. The parties running against the Broad Front are not supportive a lot of the socially progressive legislation of the last 10 years. (Not to be a Debbie Downer)

Some of the angriest, miserable people I have met are people stuck in "dead end " job they hate-but can't leave because of the "golden cages" benefits/pay etc. Some people love it, but the ones who feel stuck and "can't" leave-usually have issues.

And the very best teachers realize that it is not all about academics... it is also about the social and emotional development of the students they have.
That is why a good teacher knows as much as possible about their students -- their home life, the family situation, the non-cognitive stressors that take place in their lives. And a good teacher makes the classroom inclusive and diversifies instruction so that every student has the same chance to achieve at the highest level.
