  1. My husband had a Fiat in the '70s. He claimed the name was an acronym for "Fix It Again Tony". We once rented a Turkish-made Fiat in Turkey; it was a very "interesting" experience. Opening/closing the trunk and back seat doors proved to be a major challenge. They are much better cars now. I recently test-drove a 500e and liked it quite a lot.

    Dylan James

He performed at the Nob Hill Theater in SF this past weekend. Unfortunately, I did not catch his act.

    uber

Harvard Business Review writer calls for Uber to be shut down. Why? Its business model is and always has been illegal. https://hbr.org/2017/06/uber-cant-be-fixed-its-time-for-regulators-to-shut-it-down
  4. I really enjoyed this film. Very well-written and acted. And Kino Lorber has picked it up for US distribution. Not sure when it will be released or how wide a release it will get.
  5. Talking Heads. On my first West Coast road trip I drove to Vancouver. Since I was getting tired of the music I had been listening on the way up there, I bought a bunch of tapes to play on the way back, including Fear of Music. I ended up playing it almost continuously all the way back to SF. Its still my favorite album, but I love their others too. And Stop Making Sense is the best concert film ever, with The Last Waltz being a close second.
  6. I could care less
  7. President Trump
  8. Looking forward to seeing this at Frameline LGBTQ Film Fest in SF on Sunday. I assume it will be (or already has been) at many other festivals, and hope it will also get a commercial release.
  9. There is a big difference between personal responsibility and legal culpability. A misunderstood and largely unenforceable law is not going to protect anyone from HIV. If you want to protect yourself, forget about the law and educate yourself on the science.
  10. Love this photo! Is that Leo Forte with him?
  11. 95% of this country would be happy to be in their situation. Whiny rich people who probably expect a tax cut to relieve them of their affluenza.
  12. I loved the movie. If the series is half as good I'll be a fan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dear_White_People
  13. Another inch to be savored!
  14. that's part of my attraction to him; at 6'4". I rarely meet guys taller than me.
  15. Wow! This guy's profile pushes ALL my buttons. I'm 6'4" and would love to have him towering over me. Has great reviews on RM. Anyone have experience with him? https://rentmen.com/TallManForYou
  16. I strongly recommend talking to your doctor about PreP. You can start on it, see how you like it and if you have any side effects, and still keep using condoms until, if ever, you feel completely comfortable with giving them up. It doesn't have to be an all or nothing thing. PreP has been shown to be very effective in stopping transmission of HIV.
  17. An SF institution famous for their Swedish pancakes. http://www.searsfinefood.com
  18. For those who liked BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, I can recommend the new film GOD'S OWN COUNTRY, set on a farm in Northern England. It has won prizes at both Sundance and Berlinale earlier this year and is currently on the festival circuit. Should get a commercial release later in the year. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5635086/?ref_=nv_sr_1
  19. I know a couple of people who used to be Uber drivers. They liked it at first, but after a while realized they were being jerked around and screwed over by the company, which is pretty much standard procedure for "sharing economy" jobs. Beware when you hear that phrase. Having said that, Lyft generally has a better reputation than Uber (I have never used either). I'm sure the people trying to make a living in these types of jobs are mostly honest people, but the business models of these types of enterprises are rife with exploitation.
  20. Director Joao Pedro Rodriguez' latest film, O Ornitoligo (The Ornithologist), has been traveling the film festival circuit for the past several months. I'm looking forward to seeing it at SFMOMA as part of the SF Int'l Film Fest on 4-16. http://www.sffilm.org/festival/lineup/the-ornithologist#.WN_mZza_3qQ
  21. Prague (The Fairytale City) is one my favorite cities. I also enjoyed Budapest. Bratislava is also lovely, at least the old town area and the area around the castle. If you cross the Danube you are still in the city, but its a totally different place, full of hideous housing blocks build during the Communist era. The Danubiana Art Museum is a must-see, situated in a lovely setting on the Danube at the intersection of Slovakia, Hungary and Austria.

  24. My condolences. You will always have the memories of the times you spent with her. I hope they will eventually overshadow the grief you are now experiencing.
