I am sorry, but this is simply wrong. The old translation has absolutely nothing to do with Cantonese. As an earlier poster indicated, ”北京" literally means "Northern Capital." The old English "Peking" translation was done via the old Wade-Giles transliteration method. It was much criticized as its translation and pronunciation was not that precise and was quite confusing to modern readers. For example, its Ps sounded more like Bs. After the founding of the People's Republic, this translation was still used by the Chinese government pretty much into the late 60s and 70s. Since then, the Pinyin method was widely adopted, thus "Beijing" is now considered the proper translation. as Pinyin pronunciation much more precisely matches the Chinese pronunciation. In Chinese, the name didn't change. Now, in the case of Peking University, again, the Chinese name "北京大学” didn't really change, but for the sake of legacy and heritage, they decided to stick with the old translation. Same situation for the other half of China's Big Two universities: 清华大学. It's still using the old translation of "Tsinghua University," and not the "Qinghua University" using the Pinyin system.

The Chinese government wants people to call it Beijing since that is the pronunciation in Mandarin and pinying which which is the phonetic writing adopted for Mandarin. Peking is the cantonese pronunciation of it. You probably will still here people in Cantonese still refer to it as Peking though officially it is Beijing.

I have done microwave eggs before. Your method is too much steps. I just simply crack eggs, stir, add ingredients like sausage, bacon, cheese, bell peppers, etc. then microwave 90 seconds but you can play with time depending on how you want eggs. Simple and you know what is in it and you can pronounce all the ingredients ( well maybe not what is in the sausages).
 
No need to spend money on a breakfast bowl, just make your own.

Oh that sounds so good. I love steak but have actually never had dry aged. That is on my list of things to do now

Me either....especially after tonight’s dinner...a thick slice of dry aged bone in prime ribeye (dry aged the entire primal cut my self), seasoned and vacuum packed and placed into sous vide for a couple hours to 120°, then quickly seared twice on each side, rested, and consumed. Yum

I am a serious meat eater but am considering trying a vegetarian diet for one week as I basically eat meat everyday. I do enjoy cooking but I actually prefer my vegetables simple whether steamed, roasted, etc and just lightly seasoned. I am probably going to plan my vegetarian meal for a week so I can plan out what to cook so that I won't miss meat as much. I so enjoy tofu so there will be a lot of that.

Since the title is dog lovers I have a German shepherd. Have had only a month as we found it wandering the streets and took him in. A small mutt 20lb and a border collie mix. 3 dogs, does that count as dog lover. Anyways since this is about a greyhound I have always been intrigued about fostering a greyhound as the German shepherd and small dog will be moving out with my house mate who is moving.

You always seem to be able to find those odd little discrepancies. I guess it is possible he gave someone a shoulder rub in high school which I guess counts as doing massage. But quite a resume for a 23 year old: 600 hours of training, studied in Thailand, etc.
