That’s really cool! The Marine Corps famously used the Navajo code talkers in the Pacific Theater. Other code talkers from other tribes, languages, and parts of the USA. also served in the European Theater. I remember seeing some mentions some specific Choctaw and Chickasaw code talkers when I grew up in Oklahoma.

I lived in eastern Iowa in the nineties. I really liked making the short drive to the progressive university town of Iowa City. That’s a bit of a long drive from Des Moines. You might find some fun in Ames, Iowa. That’s the home of Iowa State University and had some fun restaurants and college bars when I visited there. Iowa has taken a rightward conservative cultural shift since I lived there and central and the western 2/3rds of the state were always more conservative than the eastern side.
