First of all - I am in the school of getting therapy (and don't just stick with the first one if you don't like him/her). You intimate that you live in an "out of the way" place so you might have to do some digging to find a GAY-FRIENDLY therapist - do it! Next, do you love him? Really love him. Or are you just together for so long that's all you know and don't want to rock the status-quo? If you DO really love him and want to stay together, how about starting to put some of your thoughts on paper, spelling out to yourself how you feel, why you did what you did and was it inevitable? Did you want him to find out? Did you feel rejected by him? Did his refusal of sex make you feel ugly or somehow not loved by him? Did you feel he had someone on the side and that's why he no longer wanted sex with you? Does he have a medical problem which interferes with sex? Be it ED, STD, whatever? To go from threesomes and group sex to zero, something is amiss. Is he angry that you did this and doesn't care why and wants you gone or is he interested in finding out just why this happened? Do not just give up. But, after 37 years with someone if you can't sit down and talk 1:1 about this then you are not in the right relationship. And last, this again is just my 2 cents: it is important that this was with an escort, not a grinder hookup or back page, or craig's list or whatever. You were desperate and you needed sex and to be treated like the wonderful person I hope you are just for the short time you were away. That you paid $ for it means it was that much more important to you that it not be like a fling with anyone from anywhere. You wanted to make sure that it was without strings and you had no feelings for the person in a romantic way. You had an itch and it NEEDED to be scratched by an "impartial" party.

In addition to the very good posts above, a subject needs to be raised: Why does he not want to have sex with you when you spent 29 years having sex? Does he have a medical condition which interferes? Does he have ED and not want to talk about it? Does he just have no libido? Is he embarrassed to talk about it? After 36 years together you should be able to hold him in your arms and talk about anything. An honest and frank discussion of what has led up to this should be included in your discussion of the actual incident and what to do to repair the relationship. Think about why you love him and why you got married. "We're too old..." does not answer the question. How old is your husband? You, by your profile, are only 57 years young. Too young to not enjoy it. "Manopause" is real and can strike young or "old".

I understand completely. But, in my guy's case, he has absolutely nothing wrong with him except for age. He still tries to get on the bed/couch, wags his tail, tries to jump for joy! For him i would do it.

Check with your vet - I don't know what middle-aged would be for mixed breeds like that.

I just came across a study called the "Dog Aging Project"which is using a drug called Rapamycin (Sirolimus) to not only prolong our friends' lives but improve the quality of that life. It is a drug normally used in people as an immunosuppressive medication after kidney transplants. Some are also touting it's use in anti-aging with humans. I have a call into my vet but, since it's the holidays, I don't expect a rapid response. In pouring through the articles I came up with a dosage of 0.1 mg per Kg of weight and given 3 times a week BUT nowhere could i find whether that was 0.1 mg/kg 3 times per week or DIVIDED into three times per week. The articles also mentioned using as small a dose as necessary. Minimal side effects. As a physician I decided to call in a Rx and use it for my dog at 0.1 mg/kg DIVIDED three times a week. i can always up it if my vet comes up with information. The group doing the study is going to have another study coming up but dogs must be "middle age" and over 40 pounds. Unfortunately, my guy is already a senior and has slipped under 40 lbs. (in his youth he was closer to 60 lbs.). But, he has nothing wrong with him other than old age (16 years) so I'm willing to give it a try. It would also be a bit odd to be getting it for myself so I used his name and Goodrx.com - approximately $40 per month at the lowest dose. Anybody with more info . . .?

We have a very large extended family most of whom came from pre-revolutionary Russia. When we tried to do a family tree, several relatives undertook the task independently figuring to compare notes at the end. What a hoot when they all got it right - several cousins married cousins so the arrows went around in circles and my great-great grandfather almost got shot by his wife escaping from his girlfriend's second story window (in Russia, of course).
